Moose is right. It's just your eustation tubes in your ears, sugar.
When you're sick they get fluid in them that can be dried with the right medication. Do NOT put any thing IN your ear unless it has been prescribed by a physician. Adding anything wet to your ears will only make matters worse.
You can get a great deal of relief with one 30mg generic sudafed every morning. I would not take the sudafed late in the day or at bedtime as it has a stimulant effect in some people. Sudafed is indeed over the counter, but it's kept behind the counter at the pharmacy so you will probably have to ask for it. (Druggies like it for the stimulant effect making it difficult for the rest of us that aren't drug abusers.)
You may also benefit from one 10mg generic Claritin taken every night. It will help to keep your nose and ears open. Generic Claritin (loratadine) is sold over the counter everywhere, Target has a bottle of 100 pills for $17. If you have allergies this is a great drug, and it's over the counter meaning no doctors appointment.
While you are ill you may also benefit from a generic 4mg Chlortimetron (chlorpheneramine maleate) The long acting Chlortimetron that has sudafed in it is AWESOME, too. Just be sure you take it as soon as you wake up, it might make you restless at night so have some 25mg Benadryl on hand in case you're unable to fall asleep. 50mg of generic Benadryl should allow you to sleep very easily and clear up that ear, your nose, etc.
I sure hope you feel better soon. Drink a lot of liquids to keep the mucus thinned out, you'll feel better faster, too. Take care.
By the way generic Claritin, generic Sudafed, generic Benadryl and Chlortimetron are available at CVS, Walgreens, Target, etc.

Your ears do that when you're sick because whatever you have, a virus or bacteria, is causing extra mucus to be created which is also why you'll likely have a runny or stuffy nose too.
You can "cure" it by taking a decongestant. Many over the counter cold/flu medicines have a decongestant component to them which will help you get rid of any mucus in your sinuses and will clear your ears too. Of course once the medicine wears off it'll start all over again but you can keep taking the medicine until you're over whatever you may have. Usually a few day to a week. Longer than that and it's probably best to have a doctor prescribe something for you.
Good luck!

It happens when you equalise the air pressure inside your ear to the "surrounding" air pressure. E.g. when you drive up a mountain the surrounding air pressure will decrease, hence you ears will pop. But if you get a headache, go to your doctor and let him check your ears....you might have an infection inside your ear what makes the equalisation difficult.....but I am no doctor

It's your sinuses getting blocked and then they partially open, it pops. You can put a couple drops of Sweet Oil in your ears, It really helps. You can buy it at drug stores.
My son had a lot of ear problems, I put in in his ears, It helped.

higher blood pressure which corresponds to the pressure from the outside? So lower your blood pressure and your ear will stop popping:)
