Rootsweb.com is a free site with thousands of files you can access, although they will pester you to join Ancestry.com, (their partner site), but it's not required.

Use the chat forums at Geneology.com and Ancestry.com to post messages with details about the person you are looking for. This is how I found my estranged father of 22 years.

I used ancestry.com last year, and they had a trial membership. You must give a credit card, and BE SURE to read the time frame when you have to cancel or you will be charged.

Check with your local library. Ancestry Library Edition is available at library locations. Also, HeritageQuest is another that you can use and you can get it remotely if you have a library card. Not every library has it. Check by branch and see who has it. Normally the larger city libraries have it.

Good luck!

Try at the link.

LDS also have Family search centers, at their link
do a search for locations near you.
Everyone is welcome to come to the centers and use Family History Center resources.
