In Word....tools, options, then the save tab..towards the bottom there is an option for auto recover save. Set it to the time desired.

If you are using Word, click Tools and then Options. Now click the "Save" tab. Here you can set how often Word does an "Auto Save".
If you are using another word processor, do some looking around in the Menu Bar drop downs. You should be able to find an "Auto Save" somewhere in Options or tools, etc.
