I have a 1994 suburban. It shifts into gear, and I can see the front driveshaft turning, but the cv joints don't turn. Its like the front diff is in neutral. Something inside the front dif isn't engaging. How do i fix this? It has 4 wires going to the front dif. Is it electrically engaged? I tested the lines, 12v goes there when I shift into 4x4, but nothing engages internally.

YES there's an actuator in the front differential and if it doesn't engage then it usually doesn't let the"4-wheel drive" illuminate thats on the floor. The GMC techs refer to it as the "dildo" cause thats what it looks like and kinda acts like one by going in & out when it engages and disengages.

You more than likely need a front diff actuator. It is the big thing that looks like a dildo that screws into the side of the front diff. If you have already checked it out electrically, then that is what is wrong. Good luck.

you might try jackin up the front end till the tires dont touch the ground. then put your tranfer case in neutral, then try turnin both of the tires if the driveshaft does not move you may have a broken axle. or just try turning the driveshaft when its in park, you shoudnt be able to turn it, but if you can then its probably the axles, just listen inside the differential when you turn the tires, if its sounds like stuff is turning in there then the axles are good, but if they just freespin your going to have to tear it apart and rebuild. good luck!
