The reason for the question because a part of me thinks that it was a setup to fail. They weren't alarmed by the serpent talking. We think of the Garden of Eden as paradise, so why was Satan even allowed there? Man may have eventually disobeyd God on his own, but he wasn't warned specifically about another being tempting him.

I think you are right... a set up to fail... to create a false dependency on god... good observation...

it can be called an omen or a warning...

humans practicing religions are set up to fail...

Adam and eve knew of nothing that was not directly manifest by god in the name of good so of course they percieved no wrong in the case of the serpent and since they could only see the serpent as good then anything the serpent said must have been good like the words of god to them cuase up until that point gods words where the only they have ever heard or knew besides there own

This is a euphemism. For sexuality and disobeying your parents. Once you are old enough to want to know about life and make your own decisions then it is time to leave home. Often you hear about the Devil who was the one that tempted Adam and Eve, however God placed the tree in the garden and told them to not touch it or eat the fruit, isn't that tempting them?, even if you believe, didn't "God" tempt them to begin with? Honestly, what is the first thing a child does when you tell them NOT to do something?

I would think warning Adam not to eat the fruit of the tree of knowlege (of good and evil) was warning enough. Adam knew and yet defied His Father and followed Eve who followed the serpent.

He did!! He told them they could eat of all the fruit in the garden of Eden, EXCEPT for the tree of knowledge!

Genesis 2:9
And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Genesis 2:8-10 (in Context) Genesis 2 (Whole Chapter)

Genesis 2:17
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

In a way He did. He warned them not to but they did eat of the fruit. In a since he did not say satan would be the one to tempt them but He did warn them not to do something. See this is the way I personally see it. Often God will warn people not to but it is up to you to resist temptation when it comes whether be satan or from your peers.

He told them not to eat from the tree. He let them know what not to do, it wasn't God's will that Adam & Eve eat fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. They took it upon themselves to go against His wishes.

Just like man to blame someone else for his failure satan didn't make them fail.

He warned them not to go near the forbidden tree and that should have been enough for them, they knew full well that God does not lie or decieve and that evrything He told them was for their own good.

Because then the story won't be as threatening to people and won't cause them to blindly obey the rules as much.
