if the dog is on your property acting aggressive or in a threaten manner , you can blow it's head off . i know that sounds harsh , but it's the truth , and for the clown that says he would punch you in the face . i can only guess his dog wouldn't be the only thing being shot for being aggressive that day also , some on here are not reading the part where you say ON YOUR PROPERTY . you have no legal obligation to retreat from your property

If you carry a gun in your front yard, and you had time to get it out, load it, turn off the safety, and aim and fire.... you probably had time to get back inside.

If you are sitting on your porch 'waiting' for the dog to come over, make a mess in your yard, and then shoot it -- you'll probably be sued by the dog owner. Think about getting sued for the cost of the dog, emotional distress to the owner AND his children (who LOVED that dog), plus lawyer fees to defend you for discharging a weapon and any kind of threats you've EVER made to the owner OR the dog.

All gunshots get investigated -- so be sure that (1) you don't have a history of trouble with the dog owner (2) you made a reasonable attempt to get inside (3) the dog was presenting a CLEAR threat to you or your children (4) you have a licence to carry the gun (5) both you and the dog were on your property, and (5) you reported it yourself, instead of the dog owner, especially.

Your question is worded in a weird way. If a person yells at you can you soot them? No... The later part of the question makes more sense. If you feel threatened then you can protect yourself. However, questions will arise. These will include; did you have a chance to flee, did you know that this animal was present, or has been present, if so why did you not contact authorities, and why did you have a firearm. Keep in mind many state laws allow people to carry firearms on their own property with no restrictions. However, know your law.

If the dog charges at you and is growling and barking, and showing his teeth you can. That is self deffense. If you have a family too, also you could sue the person the dog belongs to. Or you could just go back inside and call animal conrol and they will remove the dog. If this is a repeated situation you might want to call the cops. If they don't do anything about it, then i would shoot it.

Some areas you'd be in trouble for discharging a weapon - regardless or reason. Check with the locals. Report the threatening dog - the cops hate those calls but that's what they get paid for. Then, the next time, you'll know better what to do.

Yes you can if the dog is unleashed.

If the dog is acting aggressively towards you on your property.

But just in case make sure there are no witnesses and make the story sound good like the dog lunged at you.

Understand as long as no one calls the cops you can just bury the dog in the backyard and no one will know anyway.

Maybe, maybe not. If it's a huge dog a few feet from you that is still coming towards you. I'd say you have grounds to shoot the dog. But if it's keeping it's distance and hasn't really done anything to attack you. I'd say just go inside and call animal control.

It would be okay only if two conditions are met:

1) That a reasonable person would believe the the dog is an imminent threat to yourself or another person
2) That there is no reasonable alternative to shooting it.

If both these conditions are not met - call animal control.

Call the police and the Dog Warden.

What if you miss the dog?
I dunno... sounds safer to me that, if he's growling at you, you have time to go inside and just call the police and/or the animal control facility.
Personally, my experience with calling animal control is that the police will arrive a lot faster and maybe even get animal control's attention a lot better.
