last night i went over to my friends apartment. we had talked before online and said we were both up for a little making out and a movie (we are kinda friends with benefits). i really like himm, but i understand that he doesn't want a relationship now, and thats cool cause i am going to africa for 9 weeks this summer anyway. anyway, i was at his house and we made out a little, then got into the movie, i was freezing and had my sweater wrapped around me, he asked if i wanted a blanket from his bed, and i said " well...that depends..how clean is it?" and as soon as i said it i knew i shouldn't have, but it slipped out without even thinking (cause a blanket off a 19 year old guys bed...how clean could it really be?) and i am a bit of a germ-a-phobe. but he kinda flipped out a little and said "what? thats not cool..seriously that was really rude, you can leave now" but i apoligised and he was fine after that, but the atmosphere changed...have i ruined it?

What you said could easily have been laughed off but he chose to react strongly to the implications that he sleeps in dirty bedclothes. How could the atmosphere have changed for you to ruin what? Are you hoping that 'friends with benefits' is going to turn into something more substantial?
If that's what you hope, it's not going to happen because of remarks you make or don't make. It will happen because he decides he wants a relationship now.
If that's what you are waiting for, it's a big gamble. It may never happen.

Just really explain it came out wrong... Explain it was all a hangup on your part .. about germs etc....
even so much explain that you probably would have asked the same even if it came off your mom's bed....

but if you want to remain friends.. you need to do some apologizing big time!

You were cold, he offered you some warmth and comfort and you insulted him, of course his mood changed but he didn’t go mad because he obviously likes you.
Just put it down to a bad joke and next time chose them with a little thought, my guess he is sensitive and caring.

If your friends he should already know how you are, right? I don't think you ruined anything. I would of said the same thing. He'll get over it !

no --- he should not have reacted that way ----- let him know you are a bit of a clean freak make a joke of it and if he does not come around then its not your problem its his ---- its not important enough to make the relationship change --- best wishes

I don't think so, I'm sure you will here from him again today and he will want to see you tonight. Maybe he will think about washing his bed linen more often. good luck
