Without taking medications, which is a bit extreme for motion sickness in a car, you sort of have to train it out of you. Take a book with large print and try reading a bit. When you start to get motion sick continue reading until it gets uncomfortable (but not the point where you feel you'll vomit) than stop and wait for it to subside completely. Do that a few times and you'll gradually notice your tolerance increase. It's what i've had to do. When I first started driving I coudln't even read road-signs without feeling ill.

Try taking one of the over the counter travel sickness medicines before getting in the car. When you are reading take breaks and look outside every few minutes.

Ginger root works as well as dramamine for motion sickness. You can find it in supplement form in most health food stores.
