I will be extremely grateful for all suggestions for gifts suggestion for my mother - I want a get well gift as she is in Hospital having a hip replacement and a birthday gift as it is her birthday on Monday.

Thanks I can't buy her -
1) Flowers - she has said no she doesn't want any in the hospital, as there isn't much room by her bed as it is.
2) Book - No go - she is currently working her way through my Jodi Picoult collection and says she really doesn't need anymore
3) Clothing - spent all day Sat and Sun looking and couldn't find anything I thought she'd like.
4) DVD's - again she just watches mine.

As you can see I am now a little stuck - please help!
Thanks in advance.

She is allow chocolates - that is my back up plan, but not very original. That said a nice mix from thorntons is always a good gift.

It will take her about 6 months to recover fully from the Op and so a spa day is out (seems a bit mean getting her something she can't use for so long).

The photo album is a great idea - but I did that for Christmas! Got a hard back book made from Asda online

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

How about a lovely treat for when she comes out of hospital. Would she like (and be able to have) something like a massage - a manicure, pedicure etc. at her local salon. How about taking her out for a meal when she's better - or vouchers for the theatre? How about a magazine subscription (you can get packs in W H Smith and then she can pick her own magazine). A nice photo - framed of the two of you? A posh box of chocolates? Some jewellery? Good luck.

I would do a basket of small craft kits, paint by numbers, word problem books, maybe a hand held Yahtzee game, things she can use without getting out of her bed. I'm sure she would appreciate things to keep her entertained while she is bed-bound. Then maybe a note or a gift certificate for something she could use when she is mobile again.

well because she is in hospital and away from the family...try getting all your Sib's together and have someone take a really good photo of all of you...put it in a really nice frame and give it to her for her birthday along with a lovely card that has a sweet verse inside....she must be bored in there so that will be nice to look at when she is not at her best, also some hospitals allow hairdressers to come in and do their hair...maybe a little pick-me-up would cheer her up no end....good luck....

How about some practical gifts to make her more comfortable, especially when she leaves hospital.

You should consider a V-shaped pillow to support her in bed or in a chair.
A warm dressing gown and comfortable slippers would be nice.
How about a travel blanket to keep her warm and snug?
A tray that molds itself to stay stable on her lap will make meals much easier if she is not very mobile for a while.

pics of all her loved ones and lots of nice memories. All in a nice photo album like the ones made from recycled paper. That way she has something to keep, something to look at, something to make her smile and she'll never be alone in hopital even when visiting is over!

Just had a similar op and my family bought me a mobile phone which really kept me going finding out how it worked and then I was able to phone or text everyone. Hope all goes well for her and that she is as successful with her op as I have been.
