10 Years ago, I got married. On the day of my wedding rehersal, my family and friends gathered together at St. Marie's Church in Manchester, NH.
As I walked in the church I witnessed a priest and 3 people in front of the church. One person was screaming and fell to the floor. I am not sure the name of this performance. If I heard it I would remember the name of it. I am looking for the name of what this is and what the real reason they do this? How real is this?
I remember it scared me and I had to go outside. The screaming was ear piercing. I believe it scared me because it was something I never saw before.

If you know please tell me . I hope with what I told you, that someone will be able to understand what I mean. Thanks for your kindness.

This was definitely a Catholic church.

May have been an exorcism in progress, the only other thing it could have been was what is sometimes called being slain in the Spirit, but I have never heard of anyone actually screaming during this procedure.

There is a such thing as a "Spirit filled" Catholic church.

Being "slain in the Spirit" as the previous answerer submitted, can often be a very peaceful experience...however, it can also be very exciting...and one never knows how the body will react to a touch from heaven.

The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity. Inviting this aspect of God to dwell within you is a very good idea. Jesus sent the "Comforter" to give you strength, to pray in unknown tongues (a heavenly language), and to Baptize you with fire. Fire burns away chaff, or the waste part of any substance...such as the tares inherent in wheat grains. Purification is the result. You want to live for God when this happens. You are given conviction of sin, and are helped to turn away from sin by the Holy Spirit's guidance.

This process makes you stronger against attacks of the enemy as well. In theory, a human being can approach perfection and sinlessness through prayer, fasting, renewing of the mind with the Word of God (Bible), and an indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Of course, some feel peer pressure to fall down or "scream", but noone but you will truly know how this will effect you but you at the time the Spirit "falls" on you.

I have had this real experience many times. It is wonderful!!! I never got carried away with it, and took the experience as a great comfort that my God is real, Holy, and worthy to be worshipped.
