As Diogenes wandered through the streets of Athens with a lantern, searching for an honest man. I wander through the forums full of Protestants searching for an honest woman or man.

The simple truth is that the people of each protestant sect will tell you theirs is the true and singular way and path to their God. Using simple logic, the majority or possibly all must be lying, for they all cannot all be the true and singular way and path.

There is no denial of an evidenced truth only dissembling and insults.

Many people in my family belong to different denominations of Protestant Christians. Family gatherings are always entertaining! LOL. The people I believe to be the truest of the lot, are those who say "God's church are God's people." God's people accept that they are not the ONLY ones going to Heaven. They believe that if you are a good person and do your best to serve God, it doesn't matter what denomination you are.

Now, regarding your question, you for the most part have already answered it.LOL. Diogenes was quite the character! He saw society as artificial and hypocritical, much like how you view Christians. He thought wisdom and happiness belonged to the man who was independent of society. Much like you would view your independence of religion. Hmmm...The Cynic. Much like you? lol.

The old boy sure had a thing about dogs, and I can tell you that being a Catholic on this forum I have been made to feel like a dog quite a few times by over the top, holier than thou, fundamentalists.

I doubt that you really wonder why.

If you feel like Diogenes, at odds with the institutions of the day, you already know the reasons.

There are many, many who desire to follow the path of Christ and find that it is impossible within the confines of the church. These things have a way of repeating themselves.

As history pivots again, and we re-tell the story of the coming Christ, this time the church is cast in the role of pharisee...Surprise! Just like last time, those who attempt to hold on to tradition in the name of God find themselves unwittingly spitting on that for which they had hoped.

Don't you hate when that happens?

They are probably trying to promote something which they found works for them.

...and offer the hand of friendship, to help others see what they've come to see.

I've found Buddhists are generally quite sincere, and do not generally speak badly about other faiths.

It's a very reasoned faith, and invites one to 'come & see' (ehipassiko).

So do many faiths.

I've found Buddhists amongst the most substantial / straightforward, though, in my experience.

Test them?

To ATQ: (To cover their) Modesty. :-)

(As we, [more or less], all do). :-)

A good Buddhist can't tell a lie, though...

I try not to. :-)

Don't think I have, in a good few years, at least...

Because you are a dog and act like one to make yourself an obvious target of ridicule.... Just one possible reason.

Which one, the cynic? You tell me...could it be a perceived superiority on your part?

If you don't know, then I don't know.

Perhaps it's like what your first answerer said.
