The secret to quitting is to remove the "I can whatever I want whenever I want" out of smoking and you will find that is the main reason you smoke.
Put just one restriction on yourself and it will instantly kill the urge to smoke because it removes the true reason for smoking.
Make one absolute rule.# I can never smoke until noon. No excuses, that is the rule.
You will find that you soon rationalize that if you can't smoke whenever you feel like, it you will lose all interest. It is not so much an addiction as a feeling of power and being in charge. You know even from the first one, that others that love you do not want you to smoke so why do you start? To have that feeling of doing whatever you want over all those in your life that tell you what to do and judge you.
It worked for me and everyone I have explained it to that understand

If you feel like you can quit without the help of a stop smoking aid then I would recomend chewing some type of sugar free gum to help with the hand and mouth cravings. I personally have been taking a medicine called Chantix. It is a stop smoking aid that blocks the receptors on your brain from storing nicotine when you smoke and makes your brain not crave it anymore. The side effects of the medicine (for me) included vivid dreams and slight nausia. It is a little costly, ($150 for a 3 month supply) that most insurances cover, but it was so worth it and it paid for itself after the first month! You have to get the perscription for a doctor, but when you do you also get information for their free online support group and tons of info on tips to stay smoke free and your new life after kicking the habbit. I think it is wonderful that you are makng the decision to quit smoking. It really is a expensive and dirty habbit that will eventually kill you slowly and possibly your son. So horay for you for deciding to take the step to making yours and your sons life healithier! As a side note, when I stopped, I had to stay away from my smoking friends for awhile until a had actually stomped the habbit. With the medicine I didn't have the addiction urges from the nicotine, but I did have the physical urges and missed smoking and the fun I related with it for awhile. Just explain to your friends that you need some support during this time and would prefer them not to smoke around you. If they are supportive then they shouldn't have a problem with baving your back! Best of luck & success to you in your new journey:)

Try eating oranges and going for walks. The most important thing is to change your habits. Like if you get up in the morning and have a cup and a smoke then you need to change that habit. Instead of getting up and having a cup, go for a quick walk around the block or take a shower first before you have your morning caffeine. Breaking the cycle of your habits around smoking are more important to successfully quitting than fighting the nicotine addiction.
You could try patches also, but they mostly made me nauseous and didn't take away the craving.

Slowly. Just don't worry about the week, the day, or whatever. just deal with the impulse. That's what it mostly boils down to a lot of the times - the automatic, unthinking impulse. Once you can actually *think* about having a cigarette, and if you can say I'll have one in 10 minutes, or an hour later, then the impulse tends to go away and an hour later, you've totally forgotten, as life has a habit of getting in the way.
I used gum, normal chewing gum, and lots and lots of drinks. Water, strangely enough, worked, but please don't replace one negative habit with another!

I am 64 yrs. old and smoked since i was 9. I had a triple by-pass and I did not stop. It took a second attack the end of this Nov. to open my eyes. I tried everything on the market; but this worked and I don't miss it at all. I think the oxygen for three days helped clean everything out and boy did I notice how my clothes and hair smelled. I am sorry my children had to smell that. Best wishes.

You have to stop cigs for a DRUG test? Or you talking about other smoke?
Either way, I have been quit for 8 months. If it's something you really wanna do you can do it, i did it cold turkey. Everytime I wanted a cig I would pop gum in, or go do something ACTIVE to take my mind off it. Then it just got easier. Now I don't even wanna be around it, it stinks! I also held a pen or pencil in b/w my fingers too cause sometimes I felt like I just needed to hold something.

the trick that barley people say, but i have made it work miracles with myself, is when that urge of wanting to light up, i relax myself, and its like turning into a game, how many smoke urges can u deflect without coming to the point of actually lighting one up, and another thing is too keep busy and keep the mind off that urge. and drink water, most people eat to satisfy the urge to smoke replacing smoking with eating can RESULT IN WEIGHT GAIN, AND ANOTHER HABIT TO BREAK.so try the relaxing of the whole body like taking deep breaths, and quickly think of something that u can do other than get that nicotine fix.....good luck with this

Control. Chew some gum. When you want a cig, take a little walk. Drink a water.
Just try to adjust the urge to smoke to another energy.
