The loss of a pet can require the same 5 step grieving process as the loss of a loved person sometimes. You will heal, but the key is time, and sharing your feelings with others as you have done here. You have already begun the healing process but it is to new to feel it yet. Sorry for your loss, hang in there.

This is one of the hardest things for us to go through as animal lovers. It is hard, but we end up better in the end. I had a pug/ lab mix one time... i know everyone snickers at that, she was ugly cute. Our family had her for 14 years, and she was getting so bad off. I was only 20 at the time, but it was up to me to take her to the vet and her put to sleep. I worked at the vet at the time, so it was a day at work with me for her last day. I fed her all the chocolate she wanted, what would it hurt?
After she was put down, I could not stop crying for about 2 or 3 days. I went to sleep crying and woke up crying. It was hard. I made a scrap book of any photos and bound it with her a piece of her leash. I attached her tags to the front and have it still to this day. She was very special. She was my companion through my teen years, and i still miss her.
But, i know that keeping her any longer than we did would have only been one more miserable day in that body for her. It was better to release that beautiful spirit back into the creator for another chance. I believe in reincarnation, and that helps me a lot. I know she was reincarnated as a different animal, maybe even human. She had such soulfull eyes.
Make a scrapbook, and remember the fun you have had. She may even still be with you for a couple of days. Light a candle and sing her a song... tell her how wonderful she is and how you will love her forever. Then tell her goodbye and let her move on. You will have the memories forever, and you may run into her again.
Hugs

Awww, I'm sooo sorry for your dog! *Cries* I have had pets that died before, almost all of them from poisoning, to the road or killed by dogs. They were cats, but that doesn't make a difference. All animals are special.
Don't let anyone or anything replace Paws in your heart. She will be always with you. Think about rainbow bridge. I have a wonderful link here. It can help with your doggy grief. Even if you don't choose my answer for best, please visit the site. It is truly nice.

I send my prayers and condolences.

Because she just died today, you should be feeling remorse and sadness. Over time, this will lessen. Some will say to get another pet soon to help take your mind off of the one you just lost. Some will say to wait a while before getting another pet. Either way, just remember that everything that is alive must die. This is the life cycle. I know this doesn't help your sadness much, but it is the truth. Hugs for you today. This too, shall pass

I know how hard this, my last dog died of cancer. I didn't know how I could ever move on in life...my heart ached and it felt like there was just...nothing. I didn't want to live without him around. Thinking of a future without him made me feel sick. I know what it feels like to want to hug him so bad! I had a stuffed animal that I slept with and hugged at night.
The only thing that kept me going, and lets me now think of my dog and smile, is believing..KNOWING, that I am going to see him someday in heaven, and right now he is with God, happier than ever. I don't know if you personally know Jesus Christ as your Savior, but let me tell you He loves you very much and He wants to be friends with you and comfort you in your loss. He made you and your dog, and He loves you both. He has great plans for you.
After my dog died I thought I would never, ever get another dog again. I felt like that would be betraying my beloved dog; "replacing" him. But as time passed and I realized that nothing would ever replace him, only be something beside him. Now, years later, we have another dog; he's 1.5 years old now. He has helped me SO MUCH to not hurt anymore. This may sound cheesey, bu I prayed to God to tell my old dog that I will always love him, and how we got a new puppy, and how I bet they would have been good friends, etc. I am completely confident that my old dog is happy we have our new puppy.
As time passes the pain you feel will lessen. And maybe someday you'll want to get a new puppy too. Remember you can always talk to Jesus about your dog, and how you miss him...Jesus is always there to comfort you. (-=

ahhhhh! Honey it will be OK!! I too am an animal lover and you they can become soo close to your heart and become a part of your family!! Try not to think about it and do things to take your mind off it!! I once had a cat that meant the world to me. Her name was sugar and she got ran over by my neighbor!! I wanted to throw rock at every window in his house!! But, I kept saying to myself that there was a reason why my kitty had been taken away!! Maybe paws was sent to heaven cause something bad was going to happen !! Maybe she was going to be taken by bad people. She was taken for a reason and he happy, cause there is no more pain in heaven. try to distract yourself by going out with friends and family, and think about other things like there are hundreds of children die each minute because of hunger and the amount of people dying in wars. People are more important than animals. I know that it is really sad that you can't see your dog anymore, but you can always get another one.

my boxer, Samson, had to be put down in december and i still cry every day. my heart is still broken and i miss my friend tremendously. it feels like the pain and tears will never end, but i try to remember the fun times and remind myself that he is in heaven playing with all the other doggy souls. i haven't been able to take out his pictures again, but some day i am certain i will...it's just that right now the pain is too close to my heart, too fresh, too new, too real...as it is for you too...hang in there, it's ok to cry and be sad...but remember it will get a little easier with time.
