32 were still 'reading it' today at the time of the poll, yet they are supposed to vote on whether to debate it, today.
What do you think, is that the way our system is supposed to run?

xoil this is huge in more way than one, and yes, I expect my Senator to read it. That is why so many of them are attorneys.

yeah its crazy do recall last year when they gave them revised parts of the bill at the very last second right before the vote that should tell them something its crazy to think our elected officials would vote or debate on something they haven't even read

Thats it? Thats the breaking news story?
Isnt this the way it goes for much of the legislative process?
I don't believe senators read every bill that comes across their desk, the ones they dont read I assume they just vote for across party lines.
Besides this bill is HUGE. I only had time to read select parts. I'm sure most of the Senators will just hope that the senator sitting next to them in Congress read the bill so they can cheat off of them when deciding to vote.
Hey, I'm with you. I wish that they would actually read through every bill before making a decision on it, but in reality it wont happen.

Yes, unfortunately, that's how it's done. I heard that this bill is over 400 pages. How many 400 page books have you read this past month? Me either!
The committee members go to their respective parties and tell them what's good for the party in this bill or that, and what's bad for the party in this bill or that. And the votes get traded by "You vote for mine and I'll vote for yours." We have gotten away from simply voting for wht's right for the country.
I think that politics is the biggest hold-up for this problem. Right now, there are between 12 million and 20 million illegals here. If given a path to citizenship (not only legal alien status, but citizenship), the vast majority of them will become voters for the Democrat party. Those numbers would have swayed Florida a few years ago. (I wonder how many ARE voting Democrat right now?)
People who enter the country with more education tend to be self employed, or open their own businesses - and upon conveyance of citizenship vote Republican. So we already see definite party politics involved in the solving of the immigration problem.
What if they were given legal alien status (permanent green cards), but with NO chance to continue on to citizenship? It would eliminate the party affiliation issue from the question and then perhaps our politicians could simply approach the problem from "What's best for the country and these immigrant families that are already here?"

"32 were still reading it..."
That makes the assumption we have 32 Senators that can read. Did they send out a pictorial version?
Sarcasm:/OFF
The translation I get on that is: "32 had aides that were reading the bill and will give them a 5 minute briefing 1 hour before the vote on whether to debate the issue."

Yes. There are a number of bills that go through Congress. They are solely voting whether to debate it today.

unfortunately that is how the government works... many will say 'yes', some will say 'no', and some want to take their sweet time to decide on what to do... bills and such have to go through all the Houses to seek approval... and many times there can be a LONG delay before it can be approved...

Of course that's how the system runs when you have a bunch of jackasses leading the country. Anything short of deportation of illegals and completely securing American borders is unacceptable.
