Because what is written in its pages are oh so true. The Bible stated the joy a relationship with the Lord would bring. Its better than I could ever have imagined. I feel His love in my heart. What do you base your truth on? Christians base truth on the Word of God. These truths have stood the test of time. Truth does not change, only people's ideas change. How can you base truth on what a particular group thinks at a certain period of time? The truths in the Bible are constant and do not change just because a certain group doesn't like them from one day to the next.

1. in theory they claim sola scriptura (bible alone) in practise it is quite a different matter. Almost all of them run on a biblical interpretation of their congregational pastor or preacher or the council of elders which run a loose affiliation of geographical communities. Sometimes you run into Protestants who claim no denominational affiliation (which they usually have a disgust for and label "a religion"). 2. the authentic ministerial priesthood was rejected at the turn of the Protestant Reformation in Europe and there was an authority void or black-hole created. To fill this void the newly created Protestant communities used the rally cry of "bible alone" to great affect. It lead to thoughts of superiority which Protestants prefer to label as simplicity. Regardless of how the doctrine "bible alone" was presented Protestants generally came to believe they had been given the key to authority of instruction without the protection and guidance of the original Church body created by Jesus Christ for that purpose.
additional note: contrary to the lie presented by Kait, Catholics do not place tradition above the written scripture as written scripture is in a certain way a portion of tradition. Catholics view the Christian bible NT and OT as a Catholic book therefore neither the bible or tradition are in competion with one another. Sadly non-Catholics do not know their Christian history very well and fail to acknowledge that Jesus did not write any of the books of the bible nor did he assemble the bible into one book. Before the bible came to be Christians ran on oral tradition to tell the story of their savior and this lasted for some time centuries in fact. It is simply dishonest and slanderous to claim Catholicism replaces the bible with tradition and a common ploy used by anti-Catholic parties such as the pastor quoted by Kait.

It's not the sole source. Most will back it up with other sources. Josephus, Tacitus, Pliny the Younger. More recently some scientific studies are used. Regardless, though, it all starts with the Bible and comes back to the gospel of Jesus Christ. He is the Truth.

I think it is because Luther and Friends needed to draw a distinction between themselves and Rome. They severed the Holy Bible from it's natural place in the life of the church and started there own new church, er um, churches. You know, like Matthew 16:18 says "On this rock I will build my Churches and the gates of Hell will not prevail against them."

For them Bible was the only book that reveals some Truth.... For others it may be some other book.... but since it was the Bible for THEM, now, they claim it to be the sole basis of truth. Which is truth for THEIR case....

I am a Jew-yet I believe the bible-and it is the foundation for all truth to me-if something goes against the bible-I dont even have to check it out-yet if I do I do find error. the bible says if you twist the nose hard it will bleed-proverbs-do you want to prove the bible wrong try it
this is what got me to believe the bible-and Jesus said "I am the way, the TRUTH..... John 14vs 6 and I was taught as a Jew -Jesus is a liar and the New Testament was deception too. this may help if you let it-and laugh alittle too-its good for the soul=good point-and proof its not in the genes its in the jeans a choice
what helped me get delivered=there is an answer to your question -and as with me once -there is pride some call it gay pride-yet goes beyond to demanding approval here-did they ever hear of salvation-the answer to your question, not religion -salvation-I like your honesty too.

If I wasnt living this new life -I would regret what i never did because I had money as a rich Jewish guy, but was so empty I was going to commit suicide -money couldnt buy me happiness.

thus we get to chose our life style with power to live right from a Messiah that will save us and be our best friend, and helping others, or helping others to be our own savior thinking we are earning our way to heaven.

a woman said they are hypocrites, well I would rather be in a group with hypocrites than go to hell tormented forever gnashing teeth, weeping forever for rejecting salvation-Revelation 19-22nd chapters and heavens joy is described there too.
In hell do you want your forever weeping to be with the words-I wouldnt listen-they were so wrong-while you see the wrong ones near you gnashing their teeth too
