T-34's main advantage was its simple design which made it easy to mass produce and repair. The T-34 was also small and comparibaly light, while the tank's water-cooled diesel engine minimized the danger of fire and increased the tank's the radius of action. The design overcame the technological superiority of German forces during the Great Patriotic War. Built in Ukraine in the Kharkov Steam-Engine Factory (KhPZ), the German general von Runstedt called the T-34 the "best tank in the world" and von Kleist said it was the "finest in the world." The T-34 had a more POWERFUL cannon than German tanks, a higher top speed (32 MPH versus 25 MPH), and superior sloped armor and superior welded construction.

However, the German Tiger and Panther tanks outranged the T34's original 76mm gun, and subsequently a 85mm gun was mounted on a T-34 tank.

Probably the best, or most successful was the Russian T-34. The Tiger and King Tiger were very good, but limited in off road travel, and the Germans had very few. The Sherman was successful because of the American production capacity... the US had 3 to 5 tanks for every one the Germans had facing them. And it took that many to win, because they had a low power gun and light armor. The Germans expected a short war, so they did not invest in new models of tanks until the Russians came out with the T-34, then they were behind the curve, with production being limited by bomb raids, and never recovered leadership in tanks.

I am going to have to disagree – I think the T-34/85 was one of the most produced tanks, but I still am going to say the best all around tank in WW2 was the Panther with the 75mm main gun. This tank was made specifically to counter the T-34 - Please see the reference

Tank for tank the German panzer and the late to arrive super panzers where probably the finest tanks in WWII.

The Sherman and T-34 where okay but they where able to be produced in quantity which is where they had the advantage.

I think the Panzers and Tigers were better, just out numbered in production by the Russians.
