Paprika is made from sweet and hot bell peppers, the kind you buy in your local stores to make stir fry with, which is then dehydrated, ground and sold as a powdered spice.
While Cayenne peppers are the small, elongated chili peppers which you can also buy at your local grocery, but pack a lot more punch to them. The reason they are so hot is because they contain an organic compund called capsium, which is what they use to make pepper spray out of.
They find this substance in the oils of the peppers, mainly the seeds and skin.
So in answer to your question, unfortunatly no, Paprika won't have the same affect as cayenne. It will only turn your tongue and interesting red color, as well as your face when the "heat" starts to kick in.
Hope this has been a help to you.

paprika and cayenne peper are definately not the same!!! cayenne peper is a spicy hot spice if you would... and paprika is more of a flavor type spice , paprika is used mostly on eggs and patatoe salad's where as cayenne peper is used on a more variety of things like chicken, fish, pasta and so on. the color might fool you because they are very simular, but the taste will not. cayenne is hot paprika is not...got it???

Absolutely not. You can use oodles of paprika in a recipe & it adds a nice flavor. Just a dash of cayenne will burn up your mouth.

There are two kinds of paprika, sweet or hot. So if you have hot, it would be similar, but not quite the same. It seems as if that remedy would burn your throat.

No, they are two different spices.
I know you don't want anymore cures but have to add this one, try plain old warm salt water! You do have salt yes?
