What? The dogs should have been immediately confiscated, due to rabies laws & dangerous dog laws. THey should be destroyed. You deserve to go to court. How can the police not do anything??

This is the current law in the UK. You can read more at the link I've included about all the current laws pertaining to dogs.

Section 3 applies to all dogs, making it a criminal offence to allow a dog to be dangerously out of control in a public place. This includes instances where there is fear that an injury might occur.
Owners found guilty under either section of the Act could have their dog destroyed, face the possibility of six months in prison and/or a fine not exceeding level 5 (at present up to £5,000).

was your husband bitten so bad that he had to go to emergency room ? if not then that is why the police are not doing anything . Have you contacted animal control ? the next step would be to contact them and then if they dont want to do anything get your story to the newspaper and the local t.v. stations and start there . Maybe then you will get some response . However when I lost my finger to a pitt the owner did not have to put the dog in quarantine like I asked for them to do because he could produce a rabies vaccination certificate . Well big deal !!! I told them that dog was dangerous and guess what ? he bit the face off a 4 yr old toddler the following week . I told the newspaper that I had reported this dog the previous week for maming me and then and only then was he destroyed because we made a stink over it . this is obviously what you are going to have to do to get anything done . good luck .

Was your husband bitten? In many states any dogbite must be turned in to animal control and the dog tracked. It may be too late now, but going directly to the hospital or police station and filing a report would trigger a follow-up investigation in my state.

My personal opinion is that if that breed of dog bites anyone or any animal they should be deemed vicious and the owner should be responsible. As you said, what about next time? They could maul a child or kill someone with the next attack.

Call the mayor's office and tell them that the police are doing nothing and that you demand action. Have you called Animal Control? The next victim could be a small child. Take the owners to Small Claims Court and tell the judge what's going on with the police. Since you are in the UK, I imagine you have an equivalent of these agencies. Pit bulls are dangerous dogs.

First off all towns have leash laws, If the dogs are running loose and the owners and dog warden won't correct this problem and the dogs are aggressive try calling your local Humane Society. If a dog bites someone they should be Quarentined, and it will also be on file that the dog is aggressive.

Call your local health department. That's what I had to do and they quarantined the dog for 10 days and told the owner if the dog didn't stay on a tie out or in a pin the dog would be confiscated from him and put to sleep because of the dogs aggressiveness towards people and dogs.

Obviously the dog was off it's leash running loose right? Please don't everyone make this a breed issue. ANY dog breed can attack. I do sympathize with you however and would call animal control. There must be a leash law! Unfortunately I have the opposite problem where my neighbors dog comes into my yard and aggrivates my dogs, one being a staffi/rotti cross. Fortunately my dogs are trained!

Call one of your local news stations and see if they are intersted in your story. That would get the attention of the authorities real quick.
