I have pointed out many contradictions in bible today. Here is one more
In 2nd Chronicles, Chapter No. 21, Verse No. 20, it says that… ‘Joaram, the father of Ahezia, he reigned at the age of 32 - and he reigned for 8 years, and he died at the age of 40. -
Immediately… Ahezia became the next ruler at the age of 42. Father died at the age of
40 - Immediately son takes over, who is at the age of 42. How can a son, be two years
older than the father?’ Believe me even... even in Hollywood film, you will not be able to
produce it.
How will you prove now that bible is the word of God??

With respect, I don't know what bible you've been reading but 2 Chronicles chapter 21 only has 20 verses.

That said, you pose an interesting question because some bible translations say Ahaziah was 22 years old when he began to reign. Others DO say he was 42. Check back later. I might have an answer for you.

========

From what I've read, this was possibly a copyist error that was perpetuated in a few translations. The accepted age is 22. The discrepancy should not deter anyone from believing in the veracity of the Bible. The Word is accurate, even if humans on occasion made slight mistakes. The over all theme of the Bible is what matters, as does what we do about it's message.

In the version of bible I have, 2 Chronicles chapter 21 only has 20 verses.

2 Chronicles 21:20: "He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign... and they buried him..." This was talking about Jehoram
2 Chronicles 22:1-2 "And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah, his youngest son, king in his place... Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he began to reign"

There is a footnote for 2 Chronicles 22:2 in my bible (the recovery version) which says "Following 2 Kings 8:26 and some ancient versions. The Hebrew text reads, forty-two years."

So I guess if you check out 2 Kings 8:26 as well, you will have a better idea of their ages, and so perhaps there was human copying error that occurred at some point in time.

The accepted versions of Biblical scholars today all say 22 years and not 42.

The Septuagint version which is an ancient version that is not used because of inconsistencies apparently says 42. However, if that was true then it would mean that the woman he married already had a two year old son. We are all familiar with families that have children from other marriages.( He did marry a woman outside of God's will and was later struck down with an incurable bowel disease for his many acts of rebellion and wickedness.)

The Bible IS the word of God.

Was the changeover immediate.?

Look at the maths.

The father probably had the son [ via the wife] at about age 30.
He died at age 40.
So the son was probably ten when his father died.
Then the son commenced at age 42.
This making 32 years after his father died.
The interim time could have been made up through the ruling of a non royal visier.
And ne who is greedy could have hung onto power for that time.
Just a thought.
But it does not prove the Bible is wrong.

I looked up these verses and was not surprised to find that you misquoted them:
2 Chronicles 21:20
Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. He passed away, to no one's regret, and was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
2 Chronicles 22
Ahaziah King of Judah
1 The people of Jerusalem made Ahaziah, Jehoram's youngest son, king in his place, since the raiders, who came with the Arabs into the camp, had killed all the older sons. So Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign.
2 Ahaziah was twenty-two [a] years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother's name was Athaliah, a granddaughter of Omri.

So, not only did you editorially add in the "immediately," but you also changed Ahazias age 20 years (and misspelled the name). Do you really have nothing better to do than to post biblical misquotations on yahoo to try and shake people's faith? I feel sorry for you.

Don't know what bible YOU'RE reading, but mine says Ahezia was 22 when he began his reign.

His mother's name was Athaliah, a granddaughter of Omri."

According to the Septuagint (P. de Lagarde, Göttingen, Germany, 1883) & Syriac Peshitta, Christian Aram., fifth cent. C.E., S. Lee, London, 1826, reprint by United Bible Societies, 1979, as well as 2-Kings 8:26, this should read "22" rather than 42.

According to Masoretic Hebrew text found in Codex Leningrad B 19A as presented in BHK and BHS & the Latin Vulgate, by Jerome, c. 400 C.E., it is 42.

It should be 20 according to the Septuagint, Gr., third and second cent. B.C.E., H.S.

You have misquoted the entire passage. How hard is that to do with the Bible posted all over the internet??

2 Chron. 21:20 reads:

"Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. He passed away, to no one's regret, and was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings"

The next verse (2 Chron. 22:1) reads:

"The people of Jerusalem made Ahaziah, Jehoram's youngest son, king in his place, since the raiders, who came with the Arabs into the camp, had killed all the older sons. So Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign. Ahaziah was TWENTY-TWO years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year."

Where do you get 42 from??
