I would no recommend a staining project indoors unless you have a room in which all the window can open and produce a cross ventilation - meaning windows on each side of the room and Left-to-Right and North-to-South - somewhat like an old fashion pouch found on older homes. Then you would still need to wear a mask while you are doing the staining - and no children or pets should be around - best to do this project outside on a sunny day or if cold a clear crisp day. Staining has way too many toxins to enter the lungs and brain - it's not the odor you need to worry about, it is the environmental affects in your home that should be of concern.

Any good paint store or even a big box store that mixes paint can mix stain in colors.
If you have a Sherwin Williams Store in your area, try them. I've found their sales staff to be extremely knowledgeable about paint/stain products.

MinWax makes several shades of pink stain. Give the manufacturer a call to find a distributor nearest to you or to have it shipped.

I've used fabric dyes (of all colors) on wood and it works great!
It is inexpensive and a little goes a long way. Seal it for shine and protection - it's very easy to do.

Use water color. Very easy, can varnish over it when dry.
