People have to start minding there own business. If someone has a tattoo leave it at that, mind yourown business dont ask offensive questions, because thats the last thing we want. Some people like them some don't easy as that. I dont question the way you raise your kids, the clothes you wear, the funny looking haircut you just got, the rusty car u drive, the place you call a home. None of it is any of my business but I seems like people have nothing better to do than harass people that have tattoo's, don't you have anything better to do with your day? GET A LIFE, Payy attention to your life not others. Last time I checked I pay my bills not you so stay out of my life.

As far as the comments people make on here - it's easy to say things to people you will never see, so they like to jump in and give opinions that have nothing to do with the question someone asked. Bothered me at first, but once you get past the first 5 or so answers (people answering off the home page) you then get to the sane people. I just feel sorry for those asking a ligitimate question.
As far as out and about, I've never had anyone come up and say anything negative about my tattoos - only positive. And since they are on my back, I don't really see people's looks. It's only when I am out running around with my husband that I get the report. He gets a big kick out of it. The stares and shocked faces. He says I scare the other moms. That makes me feel good :)
I guess I'm at a stage in life where others opinions don't bother me in the least. I have a wonderful family, our own business, for the most part we are "normal". I suppose if I didn't have tattoos they'd judge me for something else......
I think us tattooed people are the most accepting, non judgemental people around. That's why we have to stick together :)

It goes back to "old school" conservative thinking. people that have tattoos are bikers or prisoners or generally dregs of society. Well, times have changed and some people just have a hard time changing with them. I have several tattoos and when I get "looks" and feel like someone is judging me, I don't get offended. I am just happy that I was not raised to be as ignorant and single minded as that person was. It's always going to be like this and if you choose to have tattoos then you are choosing to be judged and sometimes persecuted. I do agree that these people should mind their own business but I think that they just don't know any better and they are curious about us "mysterious" people. I think it's a fun game to play. When people ask me what I do for a living you should see the shock on their faces when I tell them that I own my own restaurant and hold a real estate and mortgage license and that I do very well for myself. So what I am trying to say is to not let "them" bother you. You are beautiful if you have tattoos or if you don't. Everyone is beautiful, just some don't know how to let it show.

As far as the biblical thing goes, I am not religeous, but I heard that Jesus had a tattoo on his leg!

It depends on what type of tattoos they are. I mean 4 decent tattoos, great. I'm not going to b*tch about it. I don't think piercings are trashy in the least. However, the amount of piercings can mean the difference between dating a girl and never even considering her. I know a girl with a couple of lip piercings and I'd date her in a heartbeat if she were single.

Preach On .... I cant stand it that every time my husband (who is a Engineer) and I go out to eat if he is not wearing long sleeves to cover up his sleeves on both arms then we always get crappy service just because I guess they assume because we have tattoos we are bad people or bad tippers

We actually did a test of this went into the same restaurant 1 day each week for a month and 2days he wore his normal sleeveless shirts and 2 days he came in in his work suit

the 2 he was in his everyday clothes we got the worst service ever

And the 2 he went in his suit we got wonderful service

This is such a pitiful stereotype and i wish people would get over

I have 4 tattoos including a tiny butterfly on my temple (yes, I took the plunge and got a tattoo on my face). A LOT of people told me not to do it. They said I would regret it. How would they know? I have one tattoo that is 14 years old, and I love it as much as the day I got it. I didn't get it for anyone else but me. My husband has been so supportive.

Also, why do people think tattooed people only get jobs working fast food?! I do work in accounting/consulting. I am very intelligent, married, and I am not white trash. Yet people always say inked people can't get good jobs. Obviously these people have never tried.

If you don't like my tattoos, don't look at them. Thanks for the mini rant. :)

I too am tired of people without tattoos attacking people that have them with insults, slurs, and stereotypes. My take on it.......its a case of bigotry against an inked person. Bigotry can be described as such fanatical devotion to your own group that you CAN NOT tolerate those who are different. You can break society down into many groups and sub-groups....(we all belong to multiple groups).....The two groups I want to look at are The Inked and The Inkless. First let me say that I have nothing against The Inkless (my youngest daughter is one of The Inkless). I work with them, shop with them and live my life surrounded by them and NEVER ONCE have I told ANY of them "your pasty white skin is going to look like crap when you get old". Never have I looked at a blank spot on their arm and said "why in the world would you leave a blank spot like that on your arm?" I have no problem with their inkless state (I do sometimes feel sorry for them). However the tattoo haters that you find here in yahoo questions CAN NOT stand the fact that we are different than them. That is by definition Bigotry. The next time someone without a tattoo insults or belittles you because of your ink don't hate them back, ....feel sorry for the poor, sad, inkless, bigoted bastard!

You're right in one sense: people can be judgemental about one another for something as insignificant as a tattoo. However, it is human nature to do so. It originates from a survival instict about who we can trust and be friends with, and who we need to be aware of or stay away from. In this country, tattoos originated from sailors and in prison society. Many of the prison tattos were hate tattos directed from one gang toward another. Over the years, they were adopted by other hardened groups such as bikers or delinquents. Today, they have made it into main stream culture, but, as with any other predjudice, there are still many people out there mostly of older generations that view tattoos and the type of people that get tattoos in a negative light.

You have to chill. You get a tattoo for yourself but a lot of times they are where the world can see them. People can have their opinions. Let 'em. Tattoos have only been popular for 15 or so years. Older people don't feel like you do, so what? I'm married 14 years, 2 kids, college graduate, professional and I have 13 tattoos.

All I can say is that if you are making a statement, be ready to hear stuff from people who are curious and who honestly don't kknow or understand.

Be cool. Peace.

As to db14 who says "tattoos have only been popular for 15 years or so".....you could not be any more wrong! they have been around for centuries, and are becoming more and more mainstream, yes. but 15 years? whatever
The only difference between people with tattoos and people without, is that people with tattoos don't care that others don't have them. that's a quote I heard once, and I love it because it is the absolute truth. There are people who hate tattoos because they think only trashy people get them, or some other random stereotype. typically, it's the religious right that is so anti-tattoo, because they believe the body is the temple and blah blah blah. Probably they just forgot that tatttoos have been around longer than jesus.
as to what to say to them, when someone asks about my tattoos, or what they mean, i just say "what tattoo? that's my birthmark!"

amen to that!! i never got why people who are soooo anti-piercing and tattoo always feel the need to come into the tattoo section of this site and bash on us....we dont go into religion sites and say f*ck jesus or tell them that they are wrong for believing in god or whoever they believe in but they feel its ok to tell us that we are gunna burn in hell and that we are disgusting idiots who wont get a real job because we are piercing and tattoos...umm yeah last time i checked i am at a job i love where i get paid reallly well, im in college and the fact that i tattoos or piercings doesnt affect any of that....but my favorite is when people take the time to answer our questions about tattoos and stuff by telling us that its wrong and they claim its all in the sake of religion...but i dont think its very christian of u to judge others!! jesus would not be impressed :)

p.s and before people start rippin me apart about religion..i was raised catholic and i go to church every sunday...so yes im religious but that doesnt give me the right to feel like im better than everyone..just cuz i have body art doesnt mean i have no faith
