not at all. i just pity the woman though because the hijab though its designed to protect women from harm is not working as it should as rape is still committed anyway.

Where my mother lives in the US, hijab is not accepted and women are often discriminated against for wearing it. I know of a woman who could not find a job because she covered her head, and she was amply qualified to do many things. Fortunately that is NOT everywhere, but only in some areas. Before I became Muslim I loved to see women who covered because it says a lot about their character, their beliefs and the respect they have for themselves.

Not at all.

I find it a little difficult to accept the face veil, simply because of the photo ID issue - we nned to be able to know who someone is if they get pulled over or something - but certainly a hijab is no more offensive that a yarmulka.

No the hijab is just like any other hat, cap, hair scarf, turban, yarmulka or whatever. Everyone has a right to cover their hair if they want.

As for the burqa, the full face covering, it is as socially acceptable as all other forms of full face covering, like motorcycle helmets, hockey masks, visored medieval helmets etc. IE you can walk down the street in it, if you really want, but it's not very sociable and you can't realistically expect to do business in it. You certainly can't walk into a bank.

I don't see any reason why our reactions to covering hair, or covering the face, should be any different if the covering is done for religious reasons.

Uhh- i don't agree with the entire religion and most definitely the hijab, but I don't find it offensive- it is still her choice- here in America, they have a choice as to whether they can wear it or not- most Muslim women in America that wear them make that a personal choice- but, by the way , I do have a serious problem when I see women that are forced to wear them...

Why should it bother me what another person is wearing? Its just childish to get all bent out of shape about what somebody is wearing.

If she is being forced to wear the hijab, that's a different story with different responses.

But if she is wearing the hijab/burqa willingly in accordance with what she deems is her faith, then no.

All that I ask is that they allow their viels to be taken off for security reasons. Do it in another room in front of a female whatever (airport/cop/etc) then.

For a Muslim, hijab is not just what she is wearing, but her whole demeaner, which should show modesty.

Modesty is a virtue and should be commended by Westerners. I am a Roman Catholic, and modesty has traditionally been upheld by the Church.

Many religions besides Christianity and Islam teach modesty.

No. I work in a resort that recently was full of Muslims. I don't believe in their religion, but it does not offend me. I think that modesty-wise they have the right idea. They really do dress beautifully. I love the bright colors and patterns that some of the younger women wear.

I have no problem when a woman covers her hair. I would find it a bit odd if I saw a women totally covered including her entire face with just her eyes showing. I believe that is taking the covering thing way too far.

Of course not! I am a Christian and while I may believe that Muslims are mistaken in their beliefs, I still respect their right to practise religion. That is what is so great about Canada and the US... we can state what we believe and not be worried about the police showing up at the door.
