I don't think we should wait around for Jesus' return to institute Peace. Yes, that is one possibility...
The other possibility is for us humans to FIGURE THIS OUT already!!! Yes, our track record is very poor; basically it will take a miracle for us to work this out...but I do believe in miracles, and this is one that I would just LOVE to see happen...
Religions don't need to vanish to have Peace; we'd still have our disagreements politically and geographically to fight about. However, it would be advantageous if religions could be more tolerant...live and let live...and yes, extremists of any kind really are not "religious"; they have twisted their religions to suit their own evil intents. We shouldn't blame the religions for that: we should blame the individuals who incite such extreme thinking; too bad more people don't think for themselves and call out these psychos for what they are.
But I do think it is within our Human power to achieve Peace on Earth, if we align ourselves with our hearts and souls (which for me would require much reliance on God; but perhaps other people may not need God to help them on this?) Perhaps our prayers and desires for Peace will help it come to be...
Peace.

Mankind will never experience peace until God intervenes and He will. But, I think your question is really if there were no religion, like John Lennon stated in his song, "Imagine", would we have peace. No, I think not, because man is evil in his heart and would use another avenue to cause war. Is fundamental Islam really a true religion or is it a poor copy of what was to be a true faith, same with radical Christianity. Evil men will always find an excuse to kill the innocent. As a Christian we believe that true peace will come at the return of Christ. He will come back with power and authority that He did not use on His first mission. It will be a great day for the world. Blessings.

Only religion can bring peace to mankind provided it is understood and observed properly. Any kind of fanatics or so called fundamentalists are not religious at all. No religion teaches violance. It is only the misinterpretations and foul interests that lead to violance which is defamed as religious violance. Other wise these two words are antonyms. The can't be together at all. We have to develop a movement for the obserevers of all religions to understand the actual teachings and be peace icons for the world.

No actually. Since religion is man made and man is rebellous and wicked there will never be peace till Yahshua comes.
His government is not a religion its a way of life. And still there will be those who rebel and there will be a war after one thousand years.
Its not really religion that brings strife, its the rebellous nature of man.
Yahshua did not promise peace. There is a peace of the spirit but thats an inner peace it's not the absense of strife.

There will never be peace with or without religion. For all of human history man has tried to assert dominion over other men. You can only hope for peace in your little part of the world. Peace through strength.

there will never be peace until Christ comes again. in the meantime, there are many many more things for people to fight over, money and power being the main two. when people say more people have been killed in the name of God than for any other reason, they forget that the name of God was falsified and used as a means of controlling a nation. you might as well let people have their religion... ALL people. at least we will have something to give us comfort while the war's going on.

I would like to think that there is a way but realistically I doubt it. People are too entrenched in their own particular beliefs and see challenges as criticisms and so just dig themselves deeper in. I think attitudes can only be changed one person at a time and if enough people within each religion can be persuaded to rethink their views and to let go of their dogma - well who knows?

Well - there will never be no religion. There cannot be peace with religions that hate. Christians may be seen as uptight, but they certainly are not violent. You don't see Christians bombing people in other religions. God calls us to be peaceful. If there is no peace, it is not our fault. There will never be peace as long as there is prejudice as well. As long as there is difference in color, station, gender, and personality, there can never be peace. People won't accept these things. It is the evil nature of humans.

Peace or the lack of it will be unattainable as long as there are people. It isn't religion, politics, poverty, greed, power, ideology, etc that cause war. It is mixture of some or all of them. People mess everything up because they are messed up. And to pick one thing out of the myriad things that make up human experience and blame it is disengenuous at best.

There will be peace when a smart person is able to take over the world, and re-populate it with genetically engineered people who aren't violent.
Whether religion is part of the plan is up to him. LOL
