The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) is the largest sanctioning body of motorsports in the United States.
Founded in 1948
NASCAR's headquarters are located in Daytona Beach, Florida, although it also maintains offices in four North Carolina cities: Charlotte, Mooresville, Concord and Conover as well as New York City, Los Angeles, California; Arkansas, and international offices in Mexico City and Toronto, Ontario. NASCAR and the Universal Technical Institute (UTI) cooperated and opened a technical school in North Carolina called NASCAR Technical Institute, where aspiring students train to be NASCAR mechanics.

NASCAR was formed on February 21, 1948. On December 14, 1947 talks began at the Ebony Bar at the Streamline Hotel at Daytona Beach between Bill France and other racers.
June 19, 1949 Charlotte Speedway marked the first race, a 150 mile event. This is not the Charlotte Motor Speedway (Lowe's Motor Speedway) that we know today. The Charlotte Speedway operated from 1949 to 1956. It was a 3/4 of a mile dirt track.

i heard it started in the south. the first car racers were supposed to have been ex-moonshine runners. they wanted to see who had the fastest car. hence car racing began. sorry, i don't know when it started.
