Boot with the XP CD in the CD drive
Let it start the Windows install
After you do the F8 to agree, you will be prompted whether you want to partition and/or format the drive
Delete the Vista parition and recreate it. Format it NTFS
Let it finish the Windows install
You will now be running XP
If you are missing an drivers, go to the VAIO website and download the XP version of whatever you need. (You may want to download and save to CD before you format)

Get a Windows XP CD and boot from it
Follow the instructions on screen to fresh install a copy of XP on your system. It is recommended that you delete all partitions and repartition your drive.

You might not have all the drivers, but you can go to Sony website and get the latest drivers for XP.

If it's a Windows Vista Ultimate, you can download Language Packs using the Windows Vista Ultimate Extras which is still a bit difficult - with a japanese language. You can find the Windows Vista Ultimate Extras using Windows Update...

Your update dialog should look like this (but in japanese...):

Here's a link to an article of Microsofts Knowledge Base:

So I hope you don't need to delete your Vista!

Have you tried to change the language when you registered it..
