Answer: Massachusetts but you'll need a rental car or ride the T everywhere.
Reasoning: You can get to places quickly.
Boston: Self Explanatory. There are even beaches there. You can even tell people later, "Yeah I went to Harvard." The Museum of Science - definitely cool and I am not even into science. Kid's museum - even without kids it is fun. The "North End" is like Little Italy awesome cannolis and pastries. Chinatown - great Chinese bakeries and food (cheap good food). Then there is Cheer's "where everybody knows your name."
Fall River: 40 minutes from Boston. Home of the scariest home in the world according to Travel Magazine now a Bed and Breakfast (Lizzie Borden Home). Fall River also has the world's largest naval ship exhibit: Battleship Cove and one of the world's oldest carousels.
Cape Cod and its beautiful beaches and scenery are 30 minutes away.
Plymouth Rock 20 minutes from Boston.
Salem: Witches and stuff. Less than 30 minutes from Boston.
New Bedford: Has a great whaling museum.
There is the NBA hall of Fame in Massachusetts also.
It is also close to Providence, RI (40 minute drive) or you can take the T (train) from downtown Boston to do downtown Providence. There is another "little Italy" there called Federal Hill. Awesome food and pastries. If you go, eat at Angelos and Caserta's Pizza. One word cheap and really good food. During the summer they also have something called Fire on the water I think. I don't know. I have only lived here a couple of years.

Watauga Lake Tennessee near the border of North Carolina and Virginia... check out pictures at link below to see why it's perfect.
Incredible natural beauty in the area with lots to see but not over run with tourists. Also less than 3 hour drive from Charlotte so didn't have airport hassles, gas in TN is about the cheapest in country so could do plenty of local sightseeing without pinching the pocketbook,

My favorite vacation spot so far has been Digby, Nova Scotia, closely followed by anywhere out in the US west. My home, western NC is pretty nice, too. In fact, I have had great vacations everywhere I have ever been!
You need to think about what you like to see and do on vacation, how much time you have, and what it would cost to go there.
The do some Google. Most places will send you information and brochures via snail mail.

my perfect vacation was the last one my baby and I took. We always cruise and last year she was able to go hang out with the kids club. They had their activities and I was able to have just me time. I sat by the pool and even was able to eat meals by myself. It was the perfect mix of her and me time. We always left the ship midmorning. Would lunch together and then part for a few hours. I could play bingo, hang out in the cabin. Whatever. We had formal dinner and walked to shops and then I would hit the casino. It was cheap (@ $600) for both of us - she was priced as an adult. and I only spend about a hundred more on tips and other items. all you can eat food, room service, travel while your asleep, awake to a new locale to explore. Excursions if you choose. Take a cruise you'll love it.
