There are some orders that admit women who've been widowed....otherwise, I'm pretty sure the vast majority of Catholic orders require women to be celibate and able to commit to the community of the order - that is, some of the prerequisites for becoming a nun are the desire and ability to forgo attachment to the secular world, a commitment to the vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience, and the ability give up close, intimate relationships in order to open oneself up to the relationship with Christ...and the ultimate reason for all that (in all but the cloistered orders) is to serve the community without the strings of attachment. I hope all that makes sense.....

If your children are grown and healthy and do not need you. Your husband is either deceased or you have received an annulment then there are some orders who would possibly admit you.

yeah, if you are prepared to just say no to your children and move into solitude and praying that will be just wonderful!
NOT - I would choose my family over that any time! just think of your kids!
