Do eat out the whole day and visit museums/malls or do you all just hang out at home and spend hardly any money. I want to know what is excessive and what is acceptable.

We plan ahead and go to events that everyone can enjoy. Just went to a strawberry festival last week, kids and adults loved it, and it only cost 20.00 for the day. We also have season passes to Kings Dominion, so after the main purchase (300), we only spend gas money to drive 45 minutes and we have a full day there every 2 or 3 weeks. We could easily eat out, and go to movies, etc, and spend 75 to 100 on Saturday and Sunday. Instead we decide where to go, then try to eat before or after we are done. Our kids love mac and cheese anyway, so we make tons and bring water and soda in the van. Call it a picnic, and the kids are on board with the food/drink situation.

Well, I personally dont have a family but am a college student and have to live the entier semester budgeting. So I think what you should do is just sit down and look at what amount you are able to sacrifice for family entertainment and what not. Like maybe one weekend stay in and spend quality family time together and the next go out for the day. The money that you would of spent in 2 weekends is simply 1 with this method. good luck.

We ALWAYS have a Sunday dinner, we invite friends and family. On average depending on what we (I) make it usually ranges around $15-20 dollars. Which isnt bad because spending time with family is priceless.

Budget and plan your weekends wisely. We rarely go out. Whe we do I budget for the weekend.Entire costs come down to where you live and if you choose to use public transport which is cheaper here to use than a car.

on average, maybe $30-$40. it depends on what we do. sometimes it's a movie other times it's working around the house and ordering a pizza. spend what you're comfortable with.
