Yes we all know that excessive salt is bad for you and most abstain from adding it to our meals. However there are certain foods that it is felt that to enjoy them fully salt needs to be added. Boiled eggs is one, fish and chips another and I personally can't eat raw tomatoes without a bit of salt.,As these are only occasional meals the amount of salt involved is not likely to do much harm. It's not like it's everyday is it.

Some people say that the salt will prevent the egg shell from sticking to the egg white after it's cooked. Other believe it will raise the boiling point of water which it does by a fraction of a degree. I personally don't put salt in the water. I don't think it does anything. It's one of those food myths.

For initial flavour.

If you have to use salt, the proper way to do it, is to pour a minute amount of salt on to the plate and just let the tip of the teaspoon, you are using to eat the egg, touch the salt, before inserting it into the egg; this way you are seasoning the piece you are going to eat.

1) I do it out of taste, not habit
2) Recent studies show salt is much less "bad" for you than previously thought.
3) You need dietary salt to live.

Something has to kill the taste. I don't use salt on anything, but I do use home made salsa, no salt added.

to make them taste nicer. I think seasoning is meant to bring out the flavours existing within the egg?
