Who would get the floor plate?

Can I just add... yes I agree with all these very polite responses. BUT - I refuse to believe that everyone has never given someone the floor plate - come on, someone you dont like or someone that has pissed you off for whatever reason!!!

I think that depends on who is eating with you and what kind of mood your in.
Mother in law - Yep she would get it.
Boss there for dinner - Yep him/her too.

Pissed off at hubby- dang skippy he's getting it

It also depends on how clean the floor is. If it was just cleaned and mopped and I was not in a pissy mood and having to eat with annoying people, then I would take it myself. Other than that, I am looking for the floor plate victim!

Split up what was on the non-dropped plates and whip up something to fill the gap, like bread and butter, salad, grapes, anything fast and easy. How would you feel if you got the floor plate?

I would probably take a tiny portion from the other plates to make up for the loss on one plate, then I would find a last minute side item to bulk up the meal or add a big dessert, yum.

I'd either not eat myself or make smaller portions on the plates. Eating from the floor just isn't a good idea.

Depends on what it is- if it's hot re heat it and eat it yourself.
We had a funeral get together years ago and I had painstakingly made a beautiful ham and decorated it with pineapple and cherries etc. I turned my back and my kitty had gotten up and was licking the entire ham. Took him down to his room- ran up removed all dressings- rinsed ham and popped it back in the oven for 25 minutes. Everyone was drinking wine and munching on cheese so it went unnoticed .
If it is cold- wipe the "dust" off with paper towel by pressing into the food until you don't see anything any more. 5 second rule here- you gotta be quick. and eat it yourself

It would probably be more polite for the person who dropped it on the floor (you in this case) to eat it, because they dropped it, and someone else shouldn't suffer eating dirty food because of another person's mistake.

if the floor was newly washed and the food hadn't been cooked yet then, maybe. you can always wash the uncooked food. if it were already cooked then, no. i would eat something different than my guests or just have the other things at the table.

lol...laugh it off, and say you burnt it, send out for take away, and while your waiting for it have a few drinks.
Simple as that..
Honestly I would never give anyone food off the floor as my dogs walk about the kitchen all the time, and dogs tend to walk into all sorts of things outside...yuk!

no one - I would serve everyone else the dinner and make myself a sandwich

depending on who was at dinner, I would either make no comment or laughingly tell the whole story

it sounds like what the cook in a restaurant will do. i wouldn't want to serve "dropped" food to my friends or family but what about non-friends? hrmmm.. ;p
