I'm fine with removing my shoes, I actually do it before I even get to the bins since its not a hassle to take off shoes.
Though I love barefooting it, I could see a sanitary issue. Flip flops I'd definitely do!

You can go barefoot if you want, but your feet will be disgustingly dirty after walking through an airport, and you're likely to get some kind of fungus.
But, removing the shoes is a necessary irritant, and a minor one.
What is MORE annoying are ******* who wait until the very moment they're supposed to walk through the scanner, and THEN decide it's time to untie and remove the shoes, take the belt off, remove the jacket, and then start emptying their pockets of all manner of coinage and paperclips and sundry metal items.
We'd all be less annoyed if everyone would take care of getting all the metal out of their pockets earlier, and kicking off shoes etc. when there are still a few people ahead of them. That way when it is your turn it's bing-bang-boom, throw your bags and stuff on the conveyer, and zip through the scanner - done!
And if I see one more idiot crying about how she can't take her gallon jug of super-conditioning, shin-o-sheen, shampoo and 50 piece cosmetic set on the plane anymore, I think I'll go frikin' insane....... my GOD - it's been what, a year, since they started those requirements? And you ALWAYS get some moronic fool who's going through the line at the last minute and has to throw away their $20 bottles of nonsense.....
THAT is irritation, my friend.... shoes off is nothing compared to that....

The first time I flew after 9/11 I was wearing shoes that had a little metal clip that held a tassel. They set the alarm off. Getting all that settled was a bit unnerving, but I am ok with whatever they do to keep flying safe for everyone. Now when I fly I wear clogs. They are easy to slip off and put back on again.

That's why I just wear easy on/off sandals. I wouldn't want to go barefoot more than necessary. I'd live without shoes if I could, but who knows what has been on that floor.

The only time I've flown since 9-11, Amsterdam-Glasgow, I've been completely barefoot to begin with, I didn't wear footwear at all.

I am irritated. But I wouldn't go barefoot in a public place, yuck. I had to take my belt off and my pants were falling down, so I found that irritating also.

They are breaking the law in a way as shoes and shirts are required everywhere. my question is what happens if you are not wearing pants?

It does not bother me because they are just doing their job. I was asked to take my shoes off one time because I had a beard, but if they knew me they would never ask me and they would probably wash my feet for me.
