Definitely! I know it seems really expensive to eat healthier, and the truth is....well, it is somewhat more expensive. You can save money by choosing frozen veggies instead of fresh ones. The fact is, they freeze the vegetables the minute they're picked so they really are very fresh. It's also a way to not waste! I find when I buy fresh vegetables, they often go to waste if I don't use them fast enough. Look for specials on meat and buy whatever is the special for that week. Eat whole wheat pasta instead of white flour. The nice thing is, many grocery stores have started carrying their own line of healthier selections, even going organic (like at Safeway), for much less than the name brands. The generics are usually just as tasty as the name brand, in my opinion. Happy eating! Hope you save loads!

i really struggle as well, i try to cook things from fresh products but my weekly food costs have gone up loads. I dont compare this to ready meals as i never ate them but i mean jars of sauces or pizza and chips.

Markets are good ways to get cheap fruit and veg...if you can get to them or im starting to bulk cook and keep a keen eye on the cheap section and go shopping around 7pm as this is when all the cheapies arrive!!!!

It is too simple, that is most probably why most people do not want to follow this route. "Eat lots of fruit and vegetables and wholewheat products". Compare the kilogram price of apples to that of chocolate, and then you will see what I mean. But, it seems to be easier to chew on a chocolate, than to munch one´s way through an apple. Although the health benefits are overwhelmingly positive when one eats fruit and veg instead of choccies and burgers.

Yes my husband and I do.We eat a lot of vegetables. Also on weeks when we have abit more money I buy loads of meat for him (i'm veggie) and add flavour seperate in to portions in food bags and freeze them. Like 1 box of chicken wings (supermarkets own) I can get 4 meals out of it. Also I make home made vegetable soup which costs about £3-£4 to make and taste's good

contrary to what people think...buying a weekly shop of vegetable and meat is a lot cheaper than buying loads of ready mals. it is more work but the food is healthier and usually less fattening.

one way to eat healthy, is to make your meals at home. It's much cheaper than eating out. also, you will know what you are putting in your food, such as spices etc.
