If your friend has an old version that does not update; then he won't see those problems get fixed. Maybe they are now. At some point, your friend should have been updated.
But YES, he would have to FORMAT and start over. Make backups of your importantant data first. Make CDs of your iPod tunes. Then it is THAT SIMPLE.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

Put the XP CD into the CD drive and reboot the PC
Let the Windows install begin
After you do the F8 to agree you will be asked about formating and partitioning the drive.
Delete the partition that has Vista on it, and recreat the pratition
Format it wth NTFS
Allow the XP install to complete from there.
Remember that when you do this, you will wipe everything on the hard drive, so be sure to back up an picutres, music, datat, etc you want first.
Also be sure that you have a valid activation code (serial number) for Windows XP before doing this. You can not be using that same serial number on any other PC.

Well it's the best way to stick with XP rather than Vista. Many people complain Windows Vista is only a rip-off of Mac OS X. Well I have a Windows Vista Ultimate that my friend gave me as a gift, but i'd rather keep it inside my cabinet and use XP.

At its most complicated it is fully formatting and reinstall XP, this will certainly do it but you will lose all your files. Try to see if there is a way to re-install the operating system. Do a search for Vista downgrade XP guide and you will probably come up with a good guide.

The best way would be to reformat and reinstall XP, as it would erase everything that Vista installed on it.
But, you will have to reinstall all the applications and all your data files would be lost, so better take a backup before performing this action.

If your computer is not Vista Capable, you will definatly have trouble with the software. Not every computer is a successful process with Window Vista. Computers that are 1 or 2 years old, you will most likely not have problem but if your computer is older then that, some errors may appear.

Pop in the XP CD, set your BIOS to boot from CD first (or if you set a boot menu option when PC starting up), choose to delete existing partition and XP should install from there
