I'm only 15 years old but I guess depression can affect anyone. I looked online about depression & I have almost all the signs. I've thought about death (I've cut my wrists & I've often thought of hanging myself & other ways of dying) I feel empty inside & I fell like I don't have a reason to be on this earth. I feel like everyone would be better off without me. I don't enjoy being with my friends or family anymore like I use to. I don't enjoy doing sports or anything I use to like to do. I've felt like this for about a year or so but I had no clue I could be depressed. I like to stay by myself in my room all the time and when I come out I don't really talk. I told my mom how I feel and she said she would take me to the doctors. I didn't tell my mom I've tried to kill myself. Their is a history of depression & bi-polar in my family. Do you think I'm depressed? How quick should I go to the doctors? Thanks everyone for all your help.

You sound like an articulate young girl. If you are thinking about killing yourself, you need to tell someone ASAP. You sound depressed and that can be treated. Go to the doctor, today.

Aww. *hugs* I'm with you there. I myself am depressed, so I can understand how you're feeling. It really does sound like you're depressed. I'm no doctor, so it is best if you go and see one. How quickly you ask? Are you thinking of killing yourself right now? Then go right to the doctor, hang out with a friend, your parents or someone you know untill you can get there. Please, don't stay alone. It only fuels the feelings. Sit down and think about why you might be feeling empty, sad and all of the other things you're feeling. Perhaps you can change it, just by changing/adding something to your life! :) Find some new friends, paint your walls or pick up a hobby like painting, drawing or fun online games! My b/f has told me "Fight it. Don't let it conquor you!" Easier said than done, lol. But it's a good thing to remember. Good luck with it.

Honey, if you've already tried to kill yourself once, you need to get to the doctor's office yesterday! I would tell you that you're too young to feel this depressed, but unfortunately, I can't. My stepdaughter went through similar feelings for a long time, but with the right diagnosis and therapy, she's come through to the other side of this horrible affliction. Please, ask your mom to make that doctor appointment as soon as possible, your life is too important to be put on hold waiting to decide when or if you'll get an appointment. If your mom doesn't see the urgency of this, please go into further explanation of what you are going through with her so that she understands just how important it is that you get the help you need right away.

Don't loose hope, there is help out there for you, and you've already started on the right track by recognizing the fact that you need help.

If it helps, I'm sending hugs your way...I figure every one can use one once in a while!

Yes you are depressed. I used to work as a RN on psych units for many years. I think that you should tell your parents that you tried to kill yourself so that she knows how serious that this is.

You should get in to see the doctor asap because of the thoughts of killing yourself and because you already tried once.

If you feel at risk for hurting yourself, have your mother take you in to a hospital Emergency Room right away.

You probably need to start on antidepressant medication and start as soon as possible.

God bless you honey. I'm real glad that you told your mom about how you're feeling and that she is going to take you to the doctor.

Yes, in my unqualified opinion, it does sound like depression. It's definitely worth discussing your feelings with your doctor. In terms of how soon? Well you probably don't want to alarm your family, but I wouldn't wait any longer than neccesary.

Your doctor CAN help, and things will definitely get better once you talk it through.

In time, once your getting treatment, perhaps you can talk about your suicide attempt with your parents too. It might alarm them, but you'll feel better if you can discuss it with them.

Things will get better. I've never felt exactly how your feeling, but I have felt some of the things. I'm 25 and sometimes I think life just sucks, but I know things are going to get better. You have people who love you and who are going to help you no matter what. Just be strong and things will get better.
Feel better!

You could be, but you could just be going through a hard time. Get checked now before it gets worse. Better to be safe than sorry. I know how hard it can be to suffer from it. I have a mild form of it, and it runs in my boyfriends family.
