Zahltag is the day when you are paid what is due you.
In English it could be translated as payday, but figuratively what is due you can be either good or bad.

Another word for payback would be Rache = revenge.

Zahltag means payday. It's the same.
Payback means Rache (=revenge) or Rückerstattung (=restitution)

"Zahltag" and payday do mean the same thing: The day on which the wages are paid.

I have very seldomly heard it used in a figurative sense for a decisive day when a due is paid or revenge is taken.
