A fiber restricted diet is advised when we want the patient to have a have lower volume and frequency of stools. It may be advised in someone who has had a colostomy or ileostomy to keep the stool volume down or in someone who had had anal surgery to postpone the first bowel movement as long as possible to allow healing and prevent pain.
