hi, i am reporting tomorrow, and not going to work (obviously) and i have heard that my work is supposed to pay me for the time that i am not there. is this true?
what happens if you are missing school as well?

this is my first time going.
Is there any thing else i should know?

your employer is not obligated to pay you for a days work if you go on jury duty - some companies do some don't you need to check with your hr department. You are entitled to have unpaid leave, anything else in california is discretionary.
you will be compensated at a rate of $15.00 per day plus a mileage allowance of 34 cents, one way, after the second day.
school should not be a big issue, tell the principal's office and get the time off, you can always catch up on a few days of school one would imagine.

Salary will be paid for absence due to jury duty and for the school, it will just be a valid reason for being absent.
