I have noticed that most religion bashers, such as Dawkins, reproach the followers and not the religion itself. How can they judge a religion by its followers?

I quoted this phrase from a website.
"Islam is the way of life; Muslims are people who claim to follow that way of life. A Muslim may claim to follow Islam, but be wrong. " Same goes for other religions.

When it comes to Christianity, it cannot be equated to other religions because it is in a class by itself. That are many imitators but none can duplicate. Just perpertrate. May God Bless U.

Could you have a religion without followers? the question of morality is the personal responsiblity of people and that is founded in the ideolgy of the precepts that people operate upon . He only wants to offer a practical human means of morality and ethics a little respect. Can you respect that?
Until all the people on the planet have a cohesive common
respect and the goal of peace instead of bitter differences the earth is in trouble of repeating the same insane mistakes of history .
peaceout

the example you quoted from somewhere or other seems to make perfect sense so I don't think you made a good choice to illustrate your accusation.

I would disagree with you about Dawkins, because he debunks spurious religious beliefs and gives his reasons why he is debunking them. You should try reading his books... there is food for thought for anyone there and you will be able to make better informed criticism if you have actually read the man's work.

It is the followers who perpetuate the myths. It is the followers who indoctrinate their children. It is the followers who act in accordance with their religion.
We all judge religion by its devotees. How else?
Of course one ridicules the followers; people who are so brainwashed that they never even think of asking profound questions about what they believe in. They just accept without questioning. Sheep?

People use religion and twist what it preaches into hate and bigotry.

It doesn't matter what the original religion teaches. It's the followers that corrupt the religion. After all, they are only human.

As Gandhi said, “I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ."

It's absurd religion.

4:18 The forgiveness is not for those who do ill-deeds until, when death attendeth upon one of them, he saith: Lo! I repent now; nor yet for those who die while they are disbelievers. For such We have prepared a painful doom.

Don't the followers show what the religion's like? It doesn't matter what it's *supposed* to be. We can only see the way the followers are. You can spin your fairy tales any way you want, but remember, seeing is believing.
