When alone, I often get a feeling of uneasiness and hopelessness and then i begin to panic randomly. Then i feel like i'm running out of oxygen and freak out. I usually calm myself by talking to someone... Could not getting enough sleep be a cause for this? Am i suffering from a mental illness?

The symptoms you describe could very well be caused by a mental disorder. Hopelessness is a symptom of depression, and panicking and trouble breathing could be symptoms of an anxiety disorder. The best way to find out if you are ill or not is to see your doctor at once! He or she will be able to help you felling better.

Your mind is focused on you. You look at your surroundings and become uneasy. Your mind starts to further enwrap you with thoughts about your past, current or immediate situation and you develope feelings of hopelessness. Then when your get your mind off "you" and focus on communicating with someone else, you become calm. Do you see a pattern there? Keeping your mind off of you and what you think or feel may stop you from triggering. Sleep deprovation can be a contributor, so make sure to get at least 6 if you cannot get 8 hrs sleep. then set aside a day like saturday to catch up the sleep you are missing through the week. If you do not "feed" your sleep box, and keep making withdrawals and no deposits, you will have those occurances when you just nod off when you sit to long.

you are suffering from an anxiety disorder my friend, i would suggest seeing your doctor, you might need a small amount of xanax or valium for when you feel the panic coming on, these pills help alot, well they doo for me and make sure you have some numbers with you at all times that are easily accesible so you can talk to someone, there may be an anxiety helpline or just a crisis care line if you cant contact any family or friends. you are having panic attacks and the medication i mentioned before is really great in helping that awful feeling of fear, just take the pills when you need them not just out of habbit because they can be addictive but you will be ok, i have gone through similar and have these medications available for me, if i feel a panic attack coming on., good luck mate you will be ok and remember you are not alone

I am not a trained specialist, but I believe what you're feeling is normal. Don't panic, you'll be okay. It's normal to feel that way...are you stressed at work? Are you lonely? Many things can/may be the cause of your symptoms, but what you really need is to remain calm and relax. Those feelings are completely normal. Try to concentrate on your breathing, clear your mind (there are many tips, just try to find one that works for you), or talk to a friend who'll listen. Or just write your thoughts down & maybe that'll help clear your mind or help you find what's causing you to feel uneasy. Hope that helps!

Your symptoms sound like a panic attack. How long are you by yourself when these feelings start? Talking to a therapist would be your best option as she/he would able to help you understand why you feel panicked when you are alone. Not getting enough sleep shouldn't cause these symptoms. This is not a mental illness, just your body telling you it is not well.

A lot of people get these. They are called panic attacks. It's not a mental illness, but you should see your regular doctor. There are quite a few medications for this. It could also be a symptom of depression. It can be controlled. It sounds like you have a lot of stress in your life, or that you are a worrier. Not big deal, just see your doctor and be honest with him. Good luck.

You are not suffering a mental illnessw. You are suffering panic attacks. The reason these occur is something laying on your mind that bothers you. Especially if you are a little weaker than most. You have to identify the cause and avoid it.

it sounds like you have anxiety and panic attacks. I get panic attacks whenever I am left alone. Feeling short of breath or like you can't breath is a normal symptom of panic attacks
