I can already tell my answer won't be popular, even though as of the moment I'm typing this, no one else has answered. I'm sure people will have by the time I'm done.

It depends on which religion we're talking about. If it's Christianity, and the man or woman in question is ACTIVELY homosexual (in other words, if they're engaging in the lifestyle), then absolutely not. Should a person who's committing adultery or engaging in fornication hold a position in the church? Absolutely not. Same concept.

Edit: People are funny. When a preacher or someone else in the church sins, they call them a hypocrite. Yet if it's something that is becoming more generally accepted by society (though still condemned by scripture), it becomes okay for them to be in positions of authority within the church. Sorry to tell you guys, but sin is sin. A preacher could NOT remain a preacher if he's sinning, and the church finds out about it!

No they should not be allowed to hold any position in the church, if they are allowed then something isn't right in that church. We can love homosexual people as chrsit loves them to. Allow them in the church of course. No one should be denied the right to go to church because you never know when the holy spirit or the word that is being brought forth free them from the homosexuality they are living in.

No. They are living contrary to what the bible says. If they repent and turn from their wicked ways then yes they can but as long as they identify themselves as gay or lesbian they are living contrary to God's laws. and should not hold a position in the Church.

Should straight men or women be telling gay men or women what position they should hold in any walk of life..if so why?

If scripture and it's interpretation does not belong to everyone then it belongs to no-one.

An exaggerated homophobic interpretation of scripture has become institutionalised in the wider Christian church and it is cultural rather than religious or scripturally founded.

Irrational discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation is a human rights abuse.

I personally don't believe sexual orientation or vaginas have anything to do with one's ability to be a good religious leader.

However, many folks believe homosexuality to be a sin and women should not be leaders because the Bible says so.

Until these folks no longer believe the Bible to be God's word, I don't foresee any changes.

Yes absolutely. Within society people are what they are in their private lives and go about their daily business freely. Why should it be different for a person whose sexuality is different from someone else's? Are we questioning whether or not a person is a lesser soul because they are a bit different? God made each of us to be who we are and I don't see that it's our place to question that or to discriminate against one of God's creations. A good person is a good person.

I am not gay, but i am for them. Explain to me why you think this is wrong and how does it effect their position or any church goers.

Learn from your teacher but do not always follow his/her actions.
