They're are no black atheists? I'm a black atheist, and find it easier to deal with Christians that are not black. In fact, religious black people are the worse when it comes to dealing with an atheist. They claim atheist are hostile, yet they're the ones saying "You going to Hell!" and "Yo mama didn't raise you right!", and the most annoying - "You've been listenin' to somebody else!". Maybe I'm a critical thinker! Sure, I agree with some of things Christianity says, (you shouldn't steal, you shouldn't kill) but those are social aspects to me, I don't believe in the miracles or the idea of their "God". Why can't black people see that Christianity was enforced upon us centuries ago during slavery, and that I don't want to follow that tradition?

By the way, I'm more of an agnostic atheist, because I feel there isn't enough evidence to prove an omnipotent exists. It just annoys me when Christians say they have "real" evidence and try to force that "realness" on me.

Manoman, I don't know how I got here, but I'm not going to base my beliefs on a book with MIRACLES claimed to be done in this REALITY. I don't need such a crutch (bible) to get through life. You sound like a good guy. If there is a heaven as you claim, why don't you commit suicide (no offense). I won't waste my life trying to prove myself to something that hasn't been proven to exist itself.

Well, I'm glad you are atheist, and can't quite answer directly, but it seems you simply need to be more vocal and active. ... This includes trying to network (via websites, say) to even quantify your own numbers. HTH.

I understand you, bro
the problem is categorizing, people of color often relied on a
a higher power before we as of late think that we
have OVERCOME. So I almost feel this is your category
Anyway no one has a heaven or hell to put you in or cast you
out! I believe in letting people believe whatever
they wish to believe but stand on the grounds of
biblical truth and fact. It once was that Black families mostly
relied on the bible but now it's VERY different and we as
Christians have to accept that! It's our duty only to provide
you with the scriptures (Mt28:19-20) but not persecute you.
That's why you believe it was forced upon us because
they try and force ti upon you. Hate and cursings are never
allowd by Jesus and the New Test. church but those who
don't know the bible are still in the dark because they are
told by false churches, religions, preachers and teachers
they are still to follow the Old Test ways.
NOTSO we are to love you even if you choose not to believe

I can't help but wonder if you are in an area where there is many black people.... Where I come from northern Ontario, it is mostly white people... Enough that I don't get to speak with black people often... but I found when I have had the occasion like you religious conversations never created that tension.... but I could have it out with the regular white people I meet, no problem... it's like we are trying to correct our own.... the only way to know for sure would be to speak with someone, atheist, agnostic who is from an area where there is relatively equal numbers of black and white in the same situation.

I'm a Christian. Recently, I met a Black atheist while traveling from Guam to Hawaii. We had a long and friendly chat about religion that I won't try to replay here. Suffice it to say that we had a good conversation. I was able to answer many of his questions and he left with a good feeling.
It's amazing what can happen when you remain calm, and don't try to force conversion on another person. I hope you have a similarly pleasant experience some time in your life.

Because Christianity was also a crutch we learned to lean on to try to survive the horrors of slavery, mentally. Unfortunately like other things we ingrained in our culture during slavery; (poor diet...poor sense of self worth) we hold on to it sub-consciously with out examining why. Although I'm not religious, I'm not an atheist either. I appreciate the views of people more (especially when it comes to religion) when its based more on contemplative thought & not something as simple as "Well my mama & grandmama & great-great mama was one, so that's why I'm one!" That type of thinking leaves no room for evolving. They have a chance choose your religion or belief system (or lack thereof) that their ancestors never had, & they're wasting it!

I see where you are coming from. I'm black and i know black atheists. Most black people will not change the way they think simply because it has been something that has been "pressed" into our minds, just like everything else. For example, you cant tell a girl that has a perm that kinker hair is prettier; she has been programmed to think otherwise, that straighter hair is better. Its the same when it comes to religion. Most blacks are Christans but to me its the same with all religions. I think its all a form of control.

I am not a hardcore bible beater, but i do believe in what god has put out there for us and we should try and live our life based on gods good book. But i don't have an issue with someone who does not believe in god. That is up to him and god to fight over. We are given free will by god to make our own minds up on what we do, and how we live our lives.

This question is so broad, you can't say that most black people believe that they're no black atheists..... I disagree, I feel they don't care what you believe. Maybe that's because I'm not an atheist. I don't know, I didn't actually know that people were actually concerned about other people religions..

I do not know about most of the people, but you do think. While believing is fine, it would definitely not be ok to deny the one instrument or faculty that differentiates us from all other creatures. viz., the intellect.
