I would like to address "Tawnya's" answer. My grandmother told me about the baking soda tip in beans. I don't add it to my beans because I guess i'm mean spirited. I like to watch 'em squirm or go outside to be alone. Is this wrong? Do I have a warped sense of humor. Or do you think it's funny too? My friends have never complained. But I bet the drive home was quite interesting for everyone in the car.

I don't think it's mean spirited. It sounds as if you are cooking what you like and how you like it. Everyone else is responsible for how they deal with any after effects. If you get some amusement out of it, so be it. Enjoy.
