Does anyone know if there are any programs that offer low cost/no cost mental health care in the US for young adults. I'm no longer in college, and no longer have health insurance, but also cannot go without a therapist. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Every state has a mental health or mental hygiene division that provides counseling and other supports on a sliding fee scale. Call your state operator and ask the operator to connect you with your local mental health center.

Your statement "I cannot go without a therapist" is somewhat concerning.

Therapists are supposed to work themselves out of a job essentially by helping you find your true self and to remember that you have the answers already.

To be dependent on a therapist is not healthy and will only serve to perpetuate further problems. Now, if you have a specific issue that you are struggling with, you may find a therapist useful in getting on track. However, a good therapist will always teach you to rely on your own strengths and resources.

All that said, there are probably local mental health agencies that will work with you on a sliding scale.

Best wishes.

most major cities have a community mental health organization which will provide care at either a reduced cost or help you get assistance to cover the cost.
