Any parent who has a child die, could tell you that they would far rather go through death, torture, than watch their child die. A beating and an afternoon on a cross would be horrible, but most of us would do it for our child - to say nothing of the deaths of all of our children.

Objectively speaking, since god allowed satan to take out all of Job's children, didn't Job suffer more?

At least Job didn't suffer the indignity of having Mel Gibson make a movie about him.

Oh wait...

Did I speak to soon!?

NO MEL, NO.

Mel, please.

Mel, dammit, that's inappropriate and I'm not even a Jew.

Jesus suffered more in some ways, while Job did in others. Jesus suffered even unto death, which Job didn't. Though on the flip side... Job lost his family and friends and all that he thought was important... which to some comes across as more. There isn't really any comparing, since they both suffered different things... but God the Father was with Job the whole way, while the Father turned His face from the Son when the sins of the world were placed upon Him. Jesus Christ BECAME sin on our behalf... and that is more suffering than any of us can ever imagine. Not only this, He went down to hell on our behalf and defeated satan, which only He could do. Christ, indeed, suffers still, sometimes, perhaps, due to all the godlessness and falsity proclaimed about Him; when on earth, He was mocked for Who He was and to this day, He is mocked. Nobody else in history has had such an effect on the world as Jesus the Christ, the Living Word.

I have to agree - Job suffered more, and even more than Jesus, because he had not a clue what was going on or why. Jesus had time to prepare, he knew what was going to happen, AND he could have stopped it - yet chose not to.

Job got the worst end indeed.

And yes, Robert - I would rather be beaten and nailed to a cross than see my child die. No children of your own I take it? Or just not close to them?

If you look at the physical wounds only, I would say Job suffered more. However, everybody thinks that the Agony of the Garden of Gethsemane was a walk in the park. Jesus' agony was not knowing that he was about to die, it was that he took upon himself every sin that was ever committed and every sin that was going to be committed. Imagine what guilt does to a person, emotionally, and Jesus felt that guilt! His self-imposed guilt was so great that it made his skin bleed.

So, think of the most horrific crimes in history (Jonestown, 9/11 Attacks, The Holocaust) and place the guilt of every sin on Jesus. Jesus was sinless. Jesus suffered more.

Technically, Job suffered more... he lost almost all that he had, he was strickened with diseases also if my memory of Sunday school serves me right, and what made his suffering worst is he DID NOT die. Jesus suffered while he was on the cross and died... but Job suffered 24/7 for many many days experiencing the pain of loss, the pains of the body and the pains of mental anguish.

~~*Lovingly wipes the Bibble dribble from Robert M's mouth*~~ Keep it closed, dear.

Job, that poor b@stard. I wish I had saved my "Job" blog to do a copy and paste because it's 1:30 in the morning and I'm ready to pass out. But Job, definitely. Selfish people like the one named above get a front seat ticket to the Rapture. God only tortures those who are better men and women then he is. How else to remain God?

(((Laptop)))

Edit: Oh my Gah. Did someone above me say guilt could make you bleed? If that was so, I'd be a bloody wreck.

I'm in Eastern Star, and the story of Job's Daughter is one of the points on the star.

In the story told at the meetings, she went into the sacrifice ready and willing. It was her father that was so hurt by it. She prepared herself while in the mountains, and came out ready to face her God.

Jesus suffered much more! He took upon him self the sin and pain of the world past, present, and future when he was in Gethsemane!!! That includes the pain Job went through. It also includes the sin of a rapist and the pain of the person getting raped for example!

What a question. I'd never thought about it, but I'd certainly have to say that Job suffered more. Not that Jesus had a nice time either, but your argument convinced me.

I don't know. There was this horrible crime committed in Texas, and I think that young couple suffered more. And I heard tell of some Japanese POW camps during the 2nd world war were pretty horrific.
