I have recently adopted a soldier from soldiers angels. Does anyone know how they match people with soldiers? I mean, I know it's random, but do the soldiers submit themselves? Because it seems strange that one would adopt a soldier that already has a lot of support from back home. And one last thing, why would a soldier have NO support whatsoever from back home?

I'm sending my soldier as much as I can currently, but letters are more affordable (I'm a student so money is tight!). Out of curiousity, how appreciated are letters from a stranger (I'm not saying they aren't appreciated), and what types of things should I write in my letters?

I am active duty Air Force at Camp Bucca Iraq. I am extremely lucky to have a great family and loving wife that spoil me as much as they can.

However, i can tell you taht a lot of people have little or no family. Others have famiily but they arent close, their family dissapproves, or just simply dont understand how important it is to show your support. It is not the easiest thing to ask of your loved ones sometimes either. I think it might be easier to ask for / get support from a stranger, rather than try to find the words to tell your dad he needs to write you more and that he isnt showing enough support. It is a strange situation to be in and not everyone knows how to deal with it exactly.

It is great to know you are helping out. In addition to all said above, it is also still gret sometimes just to get a show of support from people who arent obligated. Even with a strong support system myself, it is still good to know that there are strangers out tehre thinking about us, praying for us, and at least trying to do what they can.

There is no way to truly thank you for your support. it is invaluable.

I don't know about Soldier's Angels... but, I can explain why some people don't have support at home. When my husband was in Iraq last time, he asked me to send a care package to his friend. His friend's family was not financially able to send packages, and for whatever reason did not send letters. Not all families are that attentive to their soldier. Some families have an "out of sight, out of mind" attitude... they are happy to see him when he is home on leave, but other than that, they go on with life without him.

The letters, card, packages, etc that he got from people like you really kept him motivated. I applaud you for your support.

And, yes, there are a lot of soldiers that get "any soldier" packages and letters despite plenty of family support from back home. My husband has received several in the two months since he has been in Iraq this time. As a wife, I get frustrated that those packages clog up the mail system so that MY package takes longer to get through. But, at the same time, I'm glad the guys can see how much the American public is supporting the soldiers, if not the war.

Thank you so much for supporting guys like my husband's friend.

Just want to say thank you for doing your part to take care of the soldiers. I dont know how that particular organization chooses names or how they are submitted. What I will tell you is that they DO appreciate your mail. So Peachpie can shut the F.U.C.K. up because she doesnt know Sh it!!! Last deployment, there were plenty of single soldiers with no support, so each of my friends "adopted" one and took care of sending letters and care packages. I always sent extra stuff in my husbands care packages so that he could spread the love. You cant know what a let down it is to not get mail at mail call. It is like a feeding frenzy.

My husband gets some kind of care package every week. Sometimes it is a few movies and games or toys. Usually my packages include personal hygiene items (some PXs there have a limited selection so the favorite items might not be available), toys, LOTS of mission munchies, and entertainment. You dont always have to spend alot. Go to the dollar store. Join freecycle.org and post the things you would like to send soldiers in Iraq (books, magazines, movies, etc) and I GUARANTEE there will be people that will GIVE YOU stuff to send your soldier!

Good luck! And thanks again!

Some have little family or a non supporting family. They just do not take the time to write & keep up with them.
Sadly, some people have parents with drug or drinking problems.
My son is an Officer & one of his men's Dad & Mom will not talk to him because he joined the army. They are opposed to the war - I personally do not know what that has to do with loving your child.
Enjoy your adopted soldier - I love my soldier & so does his Dad & his wife. He is lucky to be loved.
Even if your soldier has family they still like to hear from others. You can't have too many friends.

I just want to say thank you. I was adopted by Soldier's Angels. A friend submitted my name. I also signed several of my soldiers up for it. A soldier can submit himself or others. Just getting mail at all can make a crappy day much better. Anything you can send will be appreciated. Many soldiers have problems getting magazines. Soldier of Fortune, Maxim, etc... would all be appreciated.

i'm vote casting for McCain. He replaced into appropriate proper to the surge and he replaced into appropriate approximately Freddy and Fanny. i stumble on it extremely humorous that the dems and the liberal press save attempting to assert that McCain is comparable to Bush. no person seems to undergo in techniques that Bush hated McCain 4 years in the past. Wait, of direction they undergo in techniques this, why then do they not rfile it that way? people consistently rant approximately uniting the rustic, crossing the isle, being bi-partisan. there's no person in our government who can beat McCain in this. look on the legislations he worked on with Ted Kennedy and on a separate social gathering with Hillery. Heck, would not all people undergo in techniques that he replaced into John Kerry's first picked for vice chairman in 2004 ? If there have been even one republican who favourite Obama, the media could have a field day reporting it. yet now that Liberman and a few different democrats have sided with McCain, you are able to not pay attention a observe approximately it. For me the single greatest situation is abortion. i'm vote casting for McCain. each and every twelve months, in the u . s . a . a million toddlers are murdered. 0.5 of those are woman, so for women people's rights I vote for McCain. 0.5 of those toddlers are black, so for minority rights I vote for McCain. they are all human, so for human rights i vote for McCain.

Not all people have a strong relationship with their families. If they aren't married then who else is there? There are several in my husbands unit that have been dissowned or simply do not have families. Not every person has a perfect family. I beleive that their higher ranking officers submit their names.

The American people are kept in the dark about a lot of things that go on, and sometimes for good reason, but now we as a society must ask do we need to here the truth or should we ask is enough being done to deal with the issues that bring about the terror that is now in our society?

i'm going in soon. i'm alone, i'm used to it. some families have such grudges that they choose not to forgive but to forget. forget and move on without you. forget that your apart of them as they are with you.
I hope this answers someone's question. not a sob story or anything, but this is how life turned out to be. there are no fingers pointing for blame, nor should be. this is just the way it is in my life and many others. they wanted nothing to do with me or my mom. they all want the american dream and their own american family. anyone who turns out to be a black sheep or a bump in the straight line, they do everything to forget and nothing to forgive. See ya.
