I reach a point all the time where I think that I should try going off of them.

I think that's just human of us. We don't want to have to be on medication to be normal.

I've tried going off multiple times, it just does not work for me right now at all.

Major depressive disorder or clinical depression no matter what it is caused by does appear to have a 'chemical imbalance' attached to it. If you just look at brain scans, you'll see that it doesn't matter if it's seemingly out of nowhere or if your grandmother died, you get the chemical imbalance. Actually, if you look at studies, it will show you that even thinking negative thoughts will start to alter your brain. So, ignore that chemical imbalance means forever crap.

How long do you need to be on mediations? Typically about 6 months to a year before your doctor starts to take you off the meds. If you're depression is reoccurant, ie. this is not the first episode of depression that you have experienced, then perhaps your doctor will want you to stay on them longer.

When going off antidepressant medication you have a high chance of relapse, this becomes less likely if you've gone through something like cognitive behavourial therapy.

Because many people would rather think it's a brain disorder than something that CBT can help, a lot of people stay on antidepressants for their whole lives, but that's just because mental illness stigma exists even in the minds of the mentally ill.

It depends on if your depression is a chemical imbalance or situational. Only your Dr and/or therapist would be able to tell you this. If it is a chemical imbalance your depression can improve greatly and you can still live a happy, productive life but you will need to take the medications for the rest of your life typically unless told otherwise later. Some people can go to therapy and get there issues dealt with in therapy and are able to get off the medications while others are not. I wish you the best~

Check out a antidepressant called "Zoloft".

It helps.

At first you'll be kinda of in a sombie state of mind, and then you'll feel capable of handling any problem.

Please see a therapist also ok.........

don't take anti-depressents! i had to take them, and they made me CRAZY! i was on them for like a year and they aren't very helpful. so slowly get off of them if your on them. just take less and less each day. even just take a sliver off the end of the pill. just get off them and go twards natural medican. trust me.
