How would this happen if I've had my ears pierced for who knows, 10 years now? Should I see a doc? It's been going on for maybe 2-3 months now so I try not to use earrings and I am having all my earrings sit in soap water tonight...do you think it may be that they were dirty? Are there any other home remedies?
Thanks a bunch.

-I was thinking of rubbing alcohol to clean it but I'm scared of that since it's already dry and gets crusted...couldnt alcohol make it worse?

If they hurt and are getting crusty then they are most likely infected.
Try getting some sterile sleepers/hoop earrings and clean the holes with betadine or iodine twice a day, by using hoop earrings you can work the antiseptic through the hole.
Do the cleansing as if they were just pierced and that should get rid of any infection.
I would use alcohol wipes to clean the earrings rather than soap.
Also check to see the metals that the earrings are made of you could be having an allergic reaction.
Good luck

I run into the same problem with certain earrings, or if I wear them every day for awhile. Wash all your earrings. Prior to putting them on dip the stem in Neosporin. It will stop the crustiness and irritation. I think it's some kinda af allergies to metal. Whatever, this will stop it. You will need to clean your earrings occasionally. (Also dont't gob it on, just insert the stem into the tube, and that's enough. Works like a charm!
