I have a male cat whos about 5 years old. I've had him ever since he was about 6 weeks old. For the past few months he's been walking around the house meowing for no apparent reason. He will some times do it during the day, at night, it really does not matter. I don't think he's lonely since he will sometimes walk past me if i'm sitting down and then go meow. It gets REALLY annoying when you're trying to sleep and the cat is meowing. He's been neutered for most of his life. We have 2 other cats that are females as well (one female is 15 years old and the other is like 3-4 and both are spayed). Anybody have any idea why he is doing this?

Have you taken him to the vet to rule out any physical causes? If there aren't any, try getting him some catnip toys and paying extra attention to him.

Since he's not neutered, and he's acting up at the times most cats that are outdoors are really active and moving around, I would suspect that there is a direct relation to him smelling other non-neutered males around his home, and females in heat as well. Get him fixed, keep the doors closed, and good luck

I have been there. We used to chuck the cats in the garage at night. One was about 100000 times worse then the other cat but both would do this. Don't worry the garage has plenty of room , fairly clean and there food , water and kitty litter was in the garage with them.

I have a cat that does that, too, but he just wants more and more attention the older he gets. I know him well and don't let it bother me. He has different meows all the time. It is sort of cute.

Mine does that too. I usually yell out, "who are you yowling at?" He comes running in the room and goes, "yeow." So I guess, its his way of showing he's the "man" of the house. I also think he does that because he's not allowed outside and if he was, he could sit on the fence and yeowl at the moon. Its a natural think. Don't get mad at him. He doesn't mean to annoy you. Just because he's neutered doesn't mean he doesn't still have "male feelings." He just can't mate.

As cats get older their personalities sometimes change. He may have just decided to become a more vocal cat.
