I recently got a tattoo with a lot of colors (predominatly red), in sharp contrast to the other tattoo's I have which are plain black. This tattoo seems to be having a much harder time healing than any I have had in the past. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I'm sure it's nothing to worry about too much, but I have also noticed that this one is bluring. As the skin is raising where the tattoo is, it also seems to be spreading, causing some of the finer areas (although there aren't many to avoid future bleeding of the colors) to lose their definition. When the scabing is complete, will the tattoo be back to it's sharp image? I have now had the tattoo for 3 days, and while it hasn't scared or peeled yet, it is obviously getting ready to in the next 24 to 48 hours.
Thanks to everyone for your help on this issue!

Yeah, I'm using the antibiotic cream supplied to me by the tattoo parlor. I just thought I'd post this question and see if anyone had the same experience. I bet in the long run it's nothing to worry about. The only cause for concern is that it's becoming blurry, but that will probably fix it's self in time...????

sometimes colors, such as red, penetrates the skin more causing the scabbing. My tat healed wonderfully, I had no scabs and getting the tat felt great. I have an awesome artist. I use this stuff called tat wax and it works wonders. If the tat appears to be a little messed up or dull, the artist will usually do touch ups for free since you are the advertising lol. Best thing to do would be to finish letting it heal, and then contact your artist. Good Luck!!

normally the blurring is caused from the needle going in too deep. It may not go back to the normal sharp image and color. It may as well be a reaction your skin is having to it. Your skin may not hold the color as well as others. Oh yeah and that cream that the parlors give you is crap, use some A & D ointment that you can find anywhere in the baby section.

I've never experienced this personally but I would guess that everything is going to be just fine. As long as there isn't excessive bleeding or any puss coming out, it should be okay. I would say if it isn't healing correctly in the next couple of days, you might want to go back to the tattoo artist and have him/her look at it to make sure everything is okay and make sure your skin is not rejecting the ink.

First quit the antibiotic cream and use plain hand lotion like suave, lubriderm, curel or cocoa butter. You don't want to heal it like an infection, you just want it to heal. Red is harder for some people. I'm sure if you quit the antibiotic cream you will notice a big difference in the healing, just use it like you would rub it in on your hands. Don't put it on thick, that is what causes it to raise up kind of like when you get pruney when soaking in the tub. NO OINTMENTS either, just lotion.

you may have a slight allergy to red ink. also you really shouldn't judge the tattoo until it is completely healed. i would say about 30 days after you got it. on one of my foot tattoos about a week into healing i noticed that one of the black lines was kindof grey looking and blurred and i was very concerned but when i looked again to tell my artist about it three weeks later it had healed perfectly and looked like the rest of the outline. your body may just be healing differently. but it could be an allergy as well. i have a red part on one of my tattoos that took longer to heal and a friend of mine had a severe allergic reaction to some red in a tattoo he got, it's fine now and looks great but you just have to take great care of it. if you're still not sure after 30 days then check with your artist.

Hi, I've got 3 tattoo's, all coloured. First was done approx 12 years ago, second approx 10years ago and finally 18months ago. With 2 of mine being on my back, I couldn't see how they looked as they were healing. Are you using any creams (recommended by your tattoo artist or chemist)? Are you worried that it may be infected? I'd go back to the Tattoo artist and ask him/her if everything is healing correctly.

I've numerous tats, and while none of them are predominately red, I recall pretty much the same healing on those that have red.
However, do be aware that red ink will fade somewhat faster than any other color aside from white, especially if exposed to sunlight on a regular basis.

I always have issues with red ink. Many people do. Give it thirty days, follow the aftercare instructions and assess again then. Good luck and be patient!

It appears that your artist went too deep while tattooing, causing scar tissue to start forming. This would explain why it is blurring and the skin is raising.
