I suffer from depression. I am taking medication and getting better. However I just loved it when family members told me just to get up and do something and I would feel better. I do have a few caring people in my life and I have come to the conclusion that they don't understand and just don't know what to do, so they either tell us to do something to get better or they just ignore us. I can only hope that this bout with depression has made me a more sympathetic caring person to others who have mental health issues.

I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.
Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.

One of the reasons is that depression is an illness hard to understand. A person with diabetes or with a stroke have immediate physical symptoms. On the other hand depression have none. Yes I know what your thinking, we do have symptoms but not like a person with a heart attack. I suffered depression for a long time before my family was able to understand what I was going thru. When you are depressed you do things without thinking, people think you are disrespectful or rude or a rebel. When you are depressed you avoid people or hide in you room, people think your an antisocial or a party pooper. When you are depressed you feel sick you have pain and you complaint, people think you are making that up because maybe you have been to the doctor and nothing was found and people see you physically OK. Most people don't know about depression until they or somebody really close suffer from it.

Those people are ignorant that's why. They aren't aware it's a legitimate disease. I mean, if someone has no legs, are they going to tell that person to walk? In otherwords, just because they can't see our depression, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
Try not to let them get to you. It's a long haul, and very slowly the word is getting out and people are becoming educated. This is a very real problem in today's society and millions of North Americans are suffering. Maybe it's the pollution and chemicals being sprayed and used on or in everything. Who knows.
Take care.

I use to suffer from depression.Depression is not anything like a heart attack or diabetes. You can prevent side effects from depression if you really want to.I use to be a miserble person. Was always down.Nothing in the world made sence to me nor was anything fair.I got tired of crying all the time.I refuse to get depressed now. When I start feeling down I think of how lucky I am to have what I have and yeah my loses is terrible and alot but there is nothing I can do to bring my loses back so I think of only the good.I`m not saying you are a attention seeker but only you can control the way you feel.

you're right. but i also think you should be more concerned about what you think about yourself than what other people think about you.
Depression is hard to overcome, but you must try very hard to find things to be happy and proud about your life.
I'll give you a few without even knowing you.
You live in this country. You have access to the internet, which means at least you have ways to entertain yourself.
I grew up in a 3 world country. Let me tell you, people there are very poor, well, most of them, and there aren't enough jobs. the government is crap.....
Yet they're very happy people. because they're happy to get bread and milk for the family to eat that day.....
You must find ways to realize you are very lucky and enjoy that. even if it means comparing yourself with unfortunate people .
In a way I'm convinced that's why they're so happy, it's because they compare themselves to their neighbor who didn't have that bread, and they feel lucky however, sometimes they'll share with that person less fortunate, and that my friend is happyness. you'll feel proud and good about yourself cause you're doing something good for someone else.
Find a way to do that and you'll see your mind will be so involved in a positive manner that you'll break off and be well.
Best of lucks and I hope i helped. i have ggod intentions.

Because they don't care enough to see more then their side of the story. They're unopen to anything that affects their way of thinking.
Don't let them bug you, okay? They'll be unopen for the rest of their lifes while we live in the open road!
I have Autism and have a gay sister, so I don't think it's possible for me to be unopen. However I have suffered because people don't understand that although I look extremely high-functioning, I still have troubles like other people with special needs do.

You must be talking about someone in particular when you are saying they. The majority of people are now educated about the issue of depression. It affects millions of people and can be very serious. Whoever these people are that you are talking about are not supportive influences to you and if you can I would not take their opinions to heart or spend to much time with them as their misinformed ideas about depression will harm you.

I have depression and bi polar disorder, so I know how you feel. I wonder the same thing everyday. Honestly, people just don't understand, the only thing we can do is try to explain to them that we don't want to be depressed. Some people understand, some don't. They only say that because they don't get it, and they don't know how to help you. Us depression sufferers just stress them out too much and they don't know what to do. They say that because it's and 'easy answer'

Ignorance true. I think more so that people are afraid to be vulnerable like people who are depressed and instead of opening their minds to understand it, they attack it, and they attack the illness and the people. I guess that is what they call projection.
